Joanne Theresa (Yakubiec) Venier, a beloved mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunty and friend, passed away peacefully in her sleep on November 3, 2025, at the age of 95 years old. Joanne was born on June 11, 1930, in Burmis, Alberta to Mike and Theresa Yakubiec. She grew up on the farm with her nine siblings and continued to live in Burmis into her adulthood next to her two sisters, Helen and Josephine, in a quaint cul-de-sac not far from the farm. She was married to her husband, Veno who passed away in 1982. Joanne and Veno were overjoyed to have their family complete when they adopted their son, Phillip.
As the years went by Joanne stayed close to her family, relocating to the Crowsnest Pass. She had a love for cross-country skiing, gardening, spending time with her family, playing cards with her sisters, dancing, walking, and going for coffee and lunch with her ladies’ group. Joanne loved her grandkids Shanda and Matt beyond compare and that love grew even more when she was blessed with her great-grandson, Ari. Later in life, Joanne was blessed to spend her time with her loving friend and companion, Stan Humphrey, including his kids Robbi and Todd and granddaughter, Delia.
Joanne is survived by her son Phillip and daughter-in-law Brenda Venier; grandchildren Shanda and Matt Webber, and great-grandson, Ari; as well as her sister, Helen Funfer and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Veno; her siblings Evangeline Yagos, Stephanie Galicia, Genevieve Cervo, Anna Lissa, Mary Giza, Josephine Giolo, Steve Yakubiec and William Yakubiec; and her loving friend and companion Stan Humphrey.
Joanne’s family would like to offer our sincere thanks and gratitude to the nurses and staff at the Crowsnest Pass Health Centre who gave such wonderful care and attention to her in her last days.
