After struggling with illness over recent years, Edward “Boyce” Roy Sommerfeldt passed away suddenly on September 12, 2025 at Chinook Regional Hospital, Lethbridge, AB. He was 66 years of age.
Boyce was born on October 16, 1958 in Cardston, AB to parents Bunny and Bernadette Sommerfeldt. He grew up in Fort Macleod, AB after his family moved there when he was young. Boyce’s mother was a skilled seamstress, and a past Fort Macleod rodeo queen, who taught Boyce sewing techniques which he used quite frequently. He could also fold clothes just like in the store. From an early age, Boyce worked along-side his brothers learning the stucco trade from his father. Over the years, he was also a logger and did other odd jobs, but when his son Andy was old enough, he returned to stucco and formed his own company, Crown Stucco.
Boyce loved the outdoors – fishing, hunting and camping, and he had a soft spot for horses and dogs. He often talked about his survival skills and would have been right at home on a show like “Naked and Afraid”. For the past twenty-five years, Boyce shared his life with Lita Michalsky whose friendship and support were a steady presence in his life.
May good memories of Boyce, and knowing that his challenges are behind him, bring comfort to all who knew him. He will be missed.
Left to mourn his passing and celebrate his life is his son, Andy; his companion, Lita Michalsky; his brothers, Carmen “Cool” (Pam), Dean “Jigger”, William “Guy”, Bruce and Maynard; his sister, Peggy; his extended family and many friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held in the summer of 2026 for family and friends to gather and remember him. Condolences may be registered at www.fantinsfuneralchapel.ca.
