Our beautiful mom, Penny Ellen Lamey, peacefully went to her eternal resting place on Saturday, September 26, 2026, with us, her children, at her side.

Our hearts are heavy but also filled with joy knowing that her difficult journey is now over and she is rejoicing with her Lord and Savior and also the love of her life, our dad, whom she missed terribly.

Mom was born in Frank, AB on December 9, 1948, to Joe and Fay Poch.  She was the eldest of 3 children and had a typical upbringing.  She graduated from Isabelle Sellon High School and went on to get her X-ray Technician certification from the Lethbridge Municipal Hospital School of Medical Radiology in October of 1969.  While still in high school, she caught the attention of Richard “Dick” Lamey, one of the local boys who had a bit of a bad reputation.  He asked her to the end of year school dance in January and Mom, never one to be rude, told him it was a bit too early for that and to maybe ask again later.  About a week later he asked her again and the rest, as they say, is history.  They were married October 11, 1969, and moved to Creston, BC.  When they discovered their family was going to expand, they moved back to the Pass where they spent the remainder of their lives.  We were so grateful that Mom decided to take the hardest job in the world and stay home with us and we would come home from school every day to the smell of fresh baking, clothes drying on the line, and her warm, welcoming hugs.  When we were older, Mom decided to get back into the workforce and got her unit clerk certification and took a job at the Crowsnest Pass Hospital, where she worked for many years.

There are so many things to say about Mom.  She was always so warm, kind, and welcoming to anyone who came to our door, and she was like a second Mom to many of our friends.  Both she and Dad cared so much about everyone, and they would not hesitate to help anyone in need if they were able.

The best thing we can say about Mom is that she loved the Lord and put all her faith and trust in Him, even when things in life were not going the way she wanted them to.  She never stopped praying for us and everyone in her family and she always told us that the Lord has a plan and a purpose for our lives and to just seek and trust in Him in all we did.  She had a quiet strength that could only come from God and no matter what she was facing, she never waivered in her faith and knew the Lord would see her through.  It was so important for her to ensure that her grandchildren knew the Lord and how much they were loved by both Him and her.  She would always get so excited when she got to see them.

Mom loved to sing and was always on the praise and worship team in church and was also a member of the community choir.  Even when she was very sick and couldn’t speak for very long, she still managed to sing us a song that she wrote and we often saw her lifting her hands in worship when words just became too hard to speak.  We imagine her singing in heaven now with the angels and how beautiful it must sound!

Those of us that remain to honor her memory are her daughter, Shelley Halvorson, of Lethbridge, AB; her son, Mark (Judy) Lamey of Lethbridge, AB; her precious grandchildren Zack Lamey, Adam Lamey, Tessah Halvorson, and Tai Halvorson.  She is also survived by her sister, Wendy (Brian) Aris, of Langdon, AB; Kevin (Beth) Poch, of Coleman, AB; sister-in-law Fran Smith, of Port Coquitlam, BC and many nieces, nephews and cousins, all of whom were very special to her.

Besides her loving husband, Richard Lamey, Mom was predeceased by her parents, Joe and Fay Poch.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, October 17, 2026, at the Crowsnest Community Christian Center (The Church on the Hill) in Coleman, AB, with a luncheon to follow.  If you knew and loved our mom, we would love it if you could join us to celebrate her life and share some memories.  Nothing would make her happier knowing we are all together.
