It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Staffie Shannon, formerly of Crowsnest Pass, Alberta. Staffie was called to be with the Lord on February 15, 2014 in Lethbridge, Alberta. She was 89 years of age.
Staffie was born on July 29, 1924 in Coleman, Alberta to proud parents, Michael and Mary Mihovic. One of seven children, Staffie was raised with a great appreciation for family, friends and faith. Staffie lived in Vancouver, B.C. for a time, and returned to the Crowsnest Pass after World War II. Once home, she garnered the affection of Don “Tiny” Shannon, and on May 16, 1949 the couple were joined in holy matrimony.
Staffie was a real “people person” who always found time to give back to the community. Whether delivering Meals on Wheels or teaching grade three catechism, she was always busy helping out. She was also a long time member of both the Royal Purple and the Catholic Womens’ League. Staffie was devoted to the Lord and took great joy in all aspects of church life especially singing in the choir. Staffie had many talents including cooking, gardening and giving the best head massages. She loved nature, hiking and above all else, spending time with her family. May she find salvation in the peace of Christ and may her memory continue to bless us with love and friendship.
Left to mourn her passing and celebrate her life include her loving daughters, Maureen Whalen and Sheila Shannon both of Lethbridge, AB; her cherished grandchildren, Jennifer (Christopher) Curtis-Lawson, Nigel Curtis and Taylor Curtis; her great grandson, Rhys Lawson; her sister, Mary Sickoff of Calgary; as well as the many friends that she made throughout her lifetime.
She was predeceased by her husband, Don; her parents, Michael and Mary Mihovic; her brother, Joe; and her sisters, Helen Lloyd, Millie Cade, Dorissa Mahovitch and Anne Mahovitch.
The Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, February 25, 2014 at 11:00 am at the Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church with Fr. Ben Marino as Celebrant. Cremation will follow at Fantin’s Funeral Chapel’s private crematorium.
