It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Sophie Labute on January 29, 2015 at the age of 90 years.
Mom was born in Liptovske, Tri Revuce, Czechoslovakia on May 22, 1924 to proud parents, August & Sophie Krall. When Sophie was six years old, she and her family immigrated to Canada in search of opportunity and prosperity. Here, she grew into a kind and caring young lady who caught the attention of a handsome gentleman, George LaButte. The happy couple were wed in Edmonton, AB and later blessed with two beautiful daughters.
Sophie enjoyed many interests and hobbies including crocheting, knitting and reading. In her younger years, she loved curling, bowling, running races, playing ball and tap dancing. Sophie worked for Vet’s Insurance for many years. She was happiest when surrounded by her family and friends and she treasured every moment spent with them. Sophie was a wonderful and thoughtful person who will be dearly missed by all.
She is survived by her daughters, Linda (Andre) Normand of Calgary, AB and Carol (John) Garbiar of Coleman, AB; her grandchildren, Richard (Lisa) Normand and Michelle Normand both of Calgary, AB, Joe (Lisa) Garbiar of Dapp, AB, Trevor (Ginger) Garbiar of Blairmore, AB and Joanne (Darren) Dixon of Chamberlain, SK; her great grandchildren, Quinn (Carly) Normand, Amanda, Joey, Shay, Jordan, Josh, Alan, Thomas Garbiar, Clayton, Chelsey, Cortni Dixon; her brother, John (Eleanor) Krall of Nampa, AB; her sister, Helen Diemert of Kelowna, BC; as well as her many nieces & nephews and many special friends.
She was predeacesed by her husband, George; parents, August “Gus” & Sophie Krall; sister, Pauline Beregszazi; and brothers-in-law, Alex Beregszazi & Pete Diemert.
