SIGRED ELWARD
(1922-2013)
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Sigred Hannah Elward, formerly of Bellevue, AB. Sigred was called to be with the Lord on November 25, 2013 while receiving care and kindness at the Crowsnest Pass Continuing Care Centre. She was 91 years of age.
Sigred was born on January 29, 1922 in Alderson, AB to Ruth & Ole Hostad. One of six children, she was raised with a great appreciation for family, friends, faith and pride in a task well done. Sigred was a gentle and caring young lady who captured the heart of Tom Elward, her charming Welshman. They pledged their love in holy matrimony in 1940 and were further blessed with five children.
Sigred’s faith in the Lord gave her strength and comfort filling her heart with joy. She was proud to raise her family with the knowledge and love of Christ and taught Sunday school for many years and cooked sumptuous meals for the Bible Camp. Sigred was talented in many ways including cooking, baking, sewing, ceramic crafting and providing a wonderful and nurturing home for her family. She enjoyed helping others: driving family and friends around town, listening and caring for those in distress and sharing her blessings with those in need. She was devoted to her husband, adored her children and was a loyal friend to many. May she find salvation in the peace of Christ and may her memory continue to bless us with friendship and love.
Left to mourn her passing and celebrate her life include her beloved children, Hilda Hoffarth of Stavely, AB, Judy (John) Ellison of Frank, Linda (Steve) Samuel of Coleman and Thomas “Butch” (Doris) Elward of Sexsmith; her grandchildren, Kathy (Ray) Franz, Blaine Hoffarth, Karen Allonby, Randy Hoffarth, Darryl Therriault, Craig (Christina) Therriault, Darren (Arlene) Ragan, Laura (Mario Guay) Ragan, Mike (Crystal) Poty, Steven (Dawn) Samuel, Carey (Dean) Coole, Chris (Amanda) Samuel, Julie Detting and Alishia (Greg) Beaunoyer; her great grandchildren, Ashley, Logan, John, Brent, Steven, Jessica, Jason, Justin, Dustin, Carlene, Coral, Joylene, Scott, Nicole, Makayla, Monica, Clint, Atayah, Jaida, Kayden, Kole, Evan, Madison, Morgan, Gavin, Alex, Terra, Tye, Carter, Hanna, Evalyn, Grace and Orry; her great great grandson, Michael; as well as the many friends that she made throughout her lifetime.
She was predeceased by her husband, Tom Elward; her daughter, Evelyn Therriault; her grandchildren, Donnie Edwin Therriault; her parents, Ole & Ruth Hostad; and her siblings, Ben Hostad, Margaret Mason & Olive Cranston.
The Funeral Service honouring Sigred’s life will be held on Friday, November 29, 2013 at 1:00 pm at the Crowsnest Community Christian Centre in Coleman with Pastor Dale Montalbetti officiating. Burial to follow at the Hillcrest Union Cemetery.
