It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Sam Marra; After his long and courageous battle with Sarcoidosis, he passed away peacefully into the arms of our Lord on May 14, 2014 at the Chinook Regional Hospital in Lethbridge at the age of 62 years.
Salvatore “Sam” Marra was born in Blairmore, Alberta on February 9th, 1952. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and his strength, enthusiasm and love for his family will be greatly missed. Sam spent his well-deserved retirement years tending to Mount St. Marra, golfing and living out his dream in Lake Havasu City, AZ. Sam was rarely seen without a computer in his hands and his immense knowledge of electronics has always left us in awe.
Sam was an active member in this community: He served many years as a Councilor for the Municipality of the Crowsnest Pass. He was on the board of directors for the Chinook Health Region for twelve years. He held executive positions with the Alberta Teacher’s Association and was actively involved in many groups in the CNP including the golf course, curling club and the museum. He was instrumental in introducing lacrosse to the CNP and coached and trained various sports teams. He also was involved with the Japanese Exchange Program and went to Japan three times as a delegate of the CNP. He tried his best to make the Crowsnest Pass a prominent place on the map and this community a better place for us all.
Sam’s prayers were answered on July 3, 2012 when he became Nonno to his granddaughter Kaia. In the short 22 months they had with each other, Kaia put her Nonno up on a pedestal and she will always and forever be “Nonno’s Girl”.
Sam is survived by his loving wife Ann Marra; his children, Jennifer (Jared) and Cory (Kayla); his precious grandchildren, Kaia and Oliver (his four legged canine grandkid), his cherished brother, John (Joan); beloved cousin, Sammy (Angie); as well as his adored nieces and nephews, extended family and numerous friends.
Sam was predeceased by his parents, Francesco “Frank” and Teresa Marra.
The Memorial Eucharistic Service was held on May 19, 2014 at 1:00 pm in the Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church in Blairmore with Rev. Renso Castellarin presiding. Donations in memory of the late Salvatore Marra may be directed towards the Alberta Lung Association and condolences may be registered at www.fantinsfuneralchapel.ca.
