ROY LAZZAROTTO

(1931– 2015)

It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Roy Antonio Lazzarotto who was called to be with the Lord while at his residence in Bellevue, Alberta on November 2, 2015 at the age of 84 years.

Roy was born in Italy on May 8, 1931 to parents Antonio and Savena Lazzarotto. As a young child, he was raised in the midst of the Second World War and at around thirteen years of age, was enlisted in the Italian Military Army. He sacrificed much for the welfare of others and that would be his strongest trait throughout his lifetime. At the age of 18, he immigrated to Canada to take advantage of the opportunities of this prosperous country. He married Eda Besenhofer and they were blessed with three precious children. Roy found work in the underground coal mines and toiled to provide for his new wife and family. He cherished every moment spent with them and was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend. He imparted his wisdom and moral values as well as teaching by example.

Roy enjoyed fly fishing, camping, reading and singing the old Italian songs. His years spent as a Mason in the Sentinel Lodge and holding several executive positions were duties he took great pride in. His involvement with the Shriners, Bellevue Legion and lengthy service with the Bellevue Fire Department are also appreciated. He was an integral part of the reclamation, development and later providing tours for the Bellevue Underground Mine. He was a hard worker who never took short-cuts and was truly and inspiration to his family and friends.

Left to mourn his passing and celebrate his life are his children, Roy Jr. (Val) Lazzarotto of Bellevue, Carol (Glen) French of Bellevue and Lorna (Marc) Backs of Calgary; his grandchildren, Trevor (Carol) French, Jason (Nicole) French, Colt (Daina) Lazzarotto, Koral (Derek) Lazzarotto, Kyla (Adam) Lazzarotto, Shelby Backs and Tessa Backs; great grandchildren, Declan French, Krysta French, Raegan Lazzarotto and Abby Lazzarotto; and the many friends he made throughout his lifetime.

He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Eda Lazzarotto; his parents, Antonio and Savena Lazzarotto; and his siblings in Italy.

By request of family, there will be no funeral services held. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Roy will be gratefully accepted by the Heart & Stroke Foundation (Box 2211 Lethbridge, AB T1J 4K7). Condolences may be registered at www.fantinsfuneralchapel.ca.
