GLEN “RON” POULTON
(1951 – 2013)
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ron Poulton of Coleman, Alberta who was called to be with the Lord on August 15, 2013 at the Chinook Regional Hospital in Lethbridge, Alberta at the age of 62 years.
Glen Ronald Bertram Poulton was born on May 11, 1951 in Coleman, Alberta to loving parents Glen & Cecilia Poulton. Along with his older brother, Bob, Ron was raised to appreciate family & friends and to have a strong work ethic. At a young age, his father instilled in him a sense of pride for one’s country and to never take for granted the freedoms he and his comrades fought for.
In 1971, Ron joined the Royal Canadian Navy. During his time in the service, he travelled the world and saw “the most beautiful oceans of turquoise blue”. He felt privileged to serve his country for 20 years, and in 1991 he was granted an honourable discharge.
Throughout his life, Ron enjoyed reading, cooking, hunting, fishing, socializing at the Coleman Legion and above all, his family. Ron’s warm heart and generous nature were evident in all that he did. It is well known that Ron volunteered his time with lawn work and handy-man jobs for seniors and that he was always ready to assist anyone in need. Ron was a devoted son caring for his parents in their final years, a wonderful brother, a loving uncle and a true friend.
He leaves behind to mourn his passing and to celebrate his life: his nieces, Angela Poulton of Calgary, AB; Natalie Ruzek of Lethbridge, AB & Rachel Poulton of Calgary, AB; his great-nephew, Jaxon Ruzek; his sister-in-law, Helen Poulton of Coleman, AB; several cousins, extended family as well as the many friends he made throughout his lifetime.
He was predeceased by his mother Cecilia Poulton in 2010 and his brother, Bob Poulton and father, Glen “Blondie” Poulton in 2012.
The memorial service honouring Ron’s life was held on Friday, August 23, 2013 at 1:00 pm at Fantin’s Funeral Chapel in Blairmore with Pastor Al Robinson officiating. The Royal Canadian Legion performed a special tribute and graciously hosted the reception.
