In loving memory
PETER ZEITH
(1942-2013)
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mr. Peter Joseph Zeith who valiantly battled against failing health over the past few years. He was called to be with the Lord on May 25, 2013 while receiving care at the Chinook Regional Hospital in Lethbridge at the age of 70 years. He was and will always be dearly loved and remembered.
Peter was born on October 5, 1942 in Natal, BC to proud parents, Peter Sr. and Elizabeth Zeith. He grew to be strong, tall and kind. His charismatic and generous nature made him many friends and caught the attention of a lovely young lady, Pearl Taylor, whom he married on September 29, 1962. They were later blessed with a loving family of their own.
Peter was a devoted husband and father as well as a good provider for his family. He worked tirelessly as an underground coal miner and led his team in Mine Rescue setting the benchmark for proper procedures in mine rescue throughout Canada. He enjoyed music, animals (especially his canine companions), various sports including baseball and darts, socializing with friends and family and his membership with the Royal Canadian Legion of which he was Past President of the Blairmore branch. He will be controversially remembered for his passion of umpiring the local baseball games and refereeing minor hockey – he found immense joy with these pastimes and to be a part of the game. Peter was very sociable and cherished his daily trips to the post office, the Legion and “Tim’s” for a cup of coffee and an earful of conversation. He was a beloved member of this community, an inspiration to his family, and gentle man whom we will dearly miss.
He is survived by his caring family: his wife of fifty years, Pearl Zeith of Blairmore; his precious children, Donald, Michael and Heather; his sisters, Pearl Myslicki, Irene Hill, Bernice Klassen, Iris (Mark) Pierce, Corrine (Richard) Grocutt; his brother, Dennis Zeith; as well as numerous nieces and nephews, extended family and friends.
He was predeceased by his father, Peter Zeith Sr and his mother, Elizabeth Zeith (nee: Krall); and cherished in-laws.
The Memorial Service honouring Peter’s life was held on Wednesday, May 29, 2013 at 1:00 pm at Fantin's Funeral Chapel in Blairmore with Rev. Janni Belgum officiating. A special tribute was graciously provided by members of the Royal Canadian Legion.
