It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Peter George Westrop on January 19, 2014. He was a devoted and loving father, grandfather and loyal friend who lived life to the fullest for 61 years.
Peter was born on December 1, 1952 in St. Catherines, Ontario to proud parents, John Hamera and Mary Schneider. At an early age, he demonstrated his talent with anything mechanical and the perseverance to get the job done. After his formal schooling, he found employment with the trucking industry and enjoyed the open road. He bought a motorcycle and spent the remaining years of his life cruising the highways.
As a young and charismatic rebel, Peter won the affections of a charming and lovely young lady, Pauline Sheilds, and they pledged their love on August 27, 1984. Peter and Pauline were further blessed with four children of their own.
Pete was an avid fisherman and had a flare for cooking, especially potluck meals where he could socialize with friends, family and be the host with the most. He also loved playing his guitar, singing, dancing, laughing, telling funny jokes and stories with his unique sound effects but most of all he loved spending time with his family and friends.
He is survived by the cherished mother of his children, Pauline Westrop of Red Deer; his children, Stanley Westrop, Meleena Westrop and Melissa Westrop; his treasured grandchildren, Trystan Westrop, Bailey Westrop and Isabella Westrop; his brothers, John Edward Schneider and Walter Bruce Schneider; numerous nieces & nephews, extended family and friends. He was predeceased by his parents John Hamera, Mary Schneider and his daughter, Melonie May Westrop.
The Celebration honouring Pete’s life will be held at 2pm on Friday, February 14, 2014 at the Poplar Ridge Community Association (#29, 28342, Township Road 384, Red Deer County, AB. NW-34-038-28-W4, ½ mile south of Highway 11A on Range Road 283.). Please bring a potluck dish and memories to the celebration!
