MILES BRADLEY LORENZ
(1954 – 2014)
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the tragic and sudden passing of Miles Lorenz of Coleman, Alberta who was involved in a workplace accident and was on this day called to be with the Lord on March 16, 2014 at the age of 59 years.
Miles was born on July 24, 1954 in Coleman, Alberta to loving parents Joe and Elizabeth Lorenz. Along with his brothers, Garry and Leonard, Miles was raised to appreciate family and friends and to have a strong work ethic.
At the tender age of 4, Miles demonstrated his desire to and talent to earnestly work by demanding that his mother make him a pair of coveralls so he could help his father change the vehicle’s oil. This dedication to an honest day’s work and a job well done continued throughout his entire life. Miles graduated from SAIT as a diesel mechanic and was admired for his talent as a mechanic and “Mr. Fix It”. He worked as a coal truck driver with his dad and, most recently, at Teck’s Coal Mountain Operations.
When Miles wasn’t hard at work, he enjoyed many interests and hobbies including being a devoted member of the Coleman Legion, horseback riding in the backcountry with his dad, watching the Calgary Stampede and the NFR in Las Vegas, and most of all motorcycling. Although he didn’t win very often, Miles occasionally liked to challenge the VLTs. He loved listening to many different genres of music from country and old time rock and roll to Lawrence Welk. His love of music wasn’t limited to just listening to it; Miles also played the acoustic guitar and bass guitar and was in a country band while in his youth. He fancied himself as a good cook, but those who sampled his dishes didn't always share his opinion! He was careful with his hard earned money, but was always generous with his family. Miles had a weakness for cream puffs and Tim Horton’s coffee as well as taking two and a half hour coffee breaks at Chris’ Café. Miles’ kind heart was evident in all that he did. You could always count on him if you needed a favour. He never turned away a stray cat in need of care and above all else, Miles cherished his time with his family, especially his nieces Kristen and Kimberly and his great nephew, Liam. Although gone from our eyes, Miles will remain forever in our hearts.
Left to mourn his passing and celebrate his life are his brothers, Garry Lorenz of Coleman, AB and Leonard (Julie) Lorenz of Lethbridge, AB; his nieces, Kristen Lorenz of Edmonton, AB and Kimberly White of Medicine Hat, AB; his great-nephew, Liam White; his good friends, Paul Seer and Ricky Lacroix; his extended family and the many friends he made throughout his lifetime.
He was predeceased by his parents, Joe and Elizabeth.
The funeral service honouring Miles’ life was held on Saturday, March 22, 2014 at 1:00 pm at Fantin’s Funeral Chapel in Blairmore, AB with Rev. Renso Castellarin officiating. The interment followed in the Coleman Catholic Cemetery.
