MARY WILLIAMS
(1917-2013)
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mary Williams (nee: Richards), beloved mother of Mel Williams of Medicine Hat, AB, who passed away peacefully on May 10, 2013 at the age of 96 years.
Mary was born on February 5, 1917 at a private nurse’s home in Hillcrest, Alberta. She was one of eight children born to proud parents Samuel & Catherine Richards. The warm and happy home that she and her siblings were raised in is still being lived in today.
Mary grew into a lovely young lady and after graduating from high school in Hillcrest, she married the love of her life, Arthur Williams, in 1942. Soon after being wed, Arthur was deployed overseas to serve in the military and Mary moved to Vancouver, B.C. to live with her father for those four years. Upon Art’s return, they purchased a new home in Blairmore. They were married over 60 years
Mary spent all her glorious life in the Crowsnest Pass and she loved the majestic beauty and caring people. She was an exceptional gardener and cook. She enjoyed the quiet times sitting in her favorite chair and knitting. Mary loved and was loved by many dear friends especially the group of ladies who, for over fifty years, joined her in a game of Whist. They always had a windup party finishing off a bottle of Kaluha and toasting their friendship.
Mary is survived by her loving son, Melvin Williams and wife Gail of Medicine Hat, her cherished grandson, A. (Lee) Williams, his wife Christina and two grandchildren, Mackenzie and Aidan of Calgary and a brother, Reese Richards of Vancouver, British Columbia. The family would like to thank the caregivers of the York Creek Lodge and the staff of the Crowsnest Pass Continuing Care Centre for taking such great care of Mary.
By request of the family, no funeral services will be held.
