In Loving Memory of

Marilyn Catherine Slugg-Dezall

(1942-2013)

Mrs. Marilyn Catherine Slugg-Dezall, recently of Caroline, Alberta, was called into the arms of our Lord and our Blessed Mother on January 3, 2013 in the Rocky Mountain House Health Centre, after a long and courageous battle with ALS, at the age of 70 years.

Marilyn was born on April 11, 1942 in Coleman, Alberta to Fred and Mary Slugg. Tragedy struck while she was only eight months old with the passing of her father. In 1945, her mother married John “Bill” Aschacher and the family resided in Blairmore, AB until 1958 when they moved to Lethbridge, AB. She grew to be a lovely and graceful young lady. In 1963, she married her first husband, Melvin Pisony, and they settled on a ranch in Lundbreck, AB and were blessed with a family of their own. In 1976 Marilyn moved back to Blairmore and began working at Kaiser Resources where she found the true love of her life, Ted Dezall. They were married on August 9, 1986 and celebrated 26 years of devotion for one another. Marilyn and Ted lived in the Crowsnest Pass until 1992 at which time they moved to Medicine Hat, AB, where Marilyn worked at the Medicine Hat Fire Department. They settled in Caroline, AB in 1999 into their current residence, Ted’s parents, Ken and Marg’s acreage.

Marilyn was a loving and dedicated single mother who gladly sacrificed her all for her children Kim and Jason. She thought of others before herself and her family’s happiness was her top priority. She was a wonderful cook, loved to spend time in her garden and made the best raspberry wine around. She adored animals, especially her dog Angel. She cherished her kids and grand babies, loved camping, playing cards, laughing and enjoying life. She was devoted to her man, Ted, and he was devoted to her. They were best of friends who loved everything they did together. She will be dearly missed and never forgotten.

Marilyn is survived by her dedicated and loving husband, Ted Dezall of Caroline, AB; her loving children, Kim (Rick) Grieve of Frank, AB and Jason (Claire) Pisony of Blairmore, AB; her stepsons, Lance (Kelly) Dezall and Tom (Kerry) Dezall of Coleman, AB; her sisters, Maureen (Joseph) Katchen of Calgary and Sheila (Ron) Pilon of Okotoks, AB; her 13 grandchildren, Danielle & Tyson Grieve, Jeffree, Mackenzie, Jackson & Juniper Pisony, Chiara Burgess, Aspen & Tivon Runge, Roger (Becky), Shawna, Derek (Amanda) & Jessica (David) Dezall; her great grandson, Braysen Palmer; four special nieces and nephews, Tracy Williamson, Trevor Ash, Michelle McDonald & Justin Pilon; and her extended family and friends. She was predeceased by her father, Fred Slugg in 1943; her mother, Mary Garner in 1995; her step-father, Bill Aschacher in 1981; her sister and soul-mate, Kathy Ash in 1996; her grandson Nathan Grieve in 1997; her grandfather, William “Harry” Garner in 1958; her grandmother, Catherine “Kate” Garner in 1980; her father-in-law, Ken Dezall in 1998; and her mother-in-law, Marjorie Dezall in 1991.

The Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, January 15, 2013 at 11:00 am in the Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church in Blairmore with Fr. Ben Marino officiating. Interment will follow in the family section of the Coleman Union Cemetery. Special tributes will be provided by family and the Royal Canadian Legion.
