It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Clara Mae Sottak (nee: Gresl) of Calgary, Alberta who was called to be with the Lord on March 9, 2014 while receiving care at the Rockyview General Hospital in Calgary. Clara, more fondly known as “Kaya” celebrated 72 years of life.
Born on October 2, 1941 in Blairmore, Alberta to proud parents John & Anne Gresl, Kaya spent her childhood and teenage years living in Bellevue and enjoying the majestic beauty of this community. She blossomed into a lovely and graceful young lady who yearned to experience city life. At age 19, she moved to Calgary and shortly thereafter met a dashing young man, Ronald Sottak. They pledged their love in marriage on June 2, 1962 and were further blessed with a family of their own.
Kaya was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She provided for her family working at Stamped Park as a Pari Mutual for over 25 years. Her kindness and charismatic nature earned her the nickname of “Mom”. She enjoyed preparing Christmas dinner and celebrating any occasion with family and simply adored her grandchildren. She also had a passion for watching Blue Jays baseball and precious moments spent visiting with her girlfriends. She was truly a wonderful woman who brightened our lives with unconditional love and she will always be fondly remembered.
She leaves to celebrate her memory her daughters, Kathy Anne (Peter) Mitchell and Heather Dawn Hoffert of Calgary; her grandchildren, Stephenie Kaya Mitchell and Robyne Mitchell; her sister-in-law, Eileen Sottak; her nephews, Alan Rogers, Greg Rogers, Rick Morris and Randy Sottak; her niece, Debbie Ramsey; as well as her extended family and the many friends she made throughout her lifetime. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Ronald Larry Sottak; her parents, John & Anne Gresl; her sister, Delephine Rogers; and her brother-in-law, Gerry Rogers.
