JOAN-ANN ALLEN

(nee: McCullough)

It is with great sadness and sorrow that we announce the passing of Joan Ann Elizabeth Allen, formerly of Coleman, Alberta, at the South Health Campus Hospital in Calgary on April 17, 2014. Joan-Ann was blessed with many years of glorious life and would not easily reveal how many years exactly; she proclaimed that your age shouldn’t hinder you in your capability and that your attitude and enthusiasm determine how old you are. Joan-Ann was born on May 29th in Portsmouth, Ontario to proud parents, Howard & Lois McCullough. She had immense beauty and grace and discovered an inner strength and fortitude that allowed her to overcome many of life’s challenges including the early loss of her beloved daughter Constance. Her greatest gift was that of her family - her four boys filled her heart with joy and she loved them dearly. She also had a passion for swimming, curling, hopping on the casino bus to challenge her luck and evenings with friends at Stage West, to name but a few. Joan-Ann loved to travel and experience the customs and cultures of all areas. She moved her family frequently providing them with a worldly education not found in schools. In 1999, she even accepted the role of mayor in Port Clements in the Queen Charlotte Islands in dedication of that wonderful community but her heart belonged to the Crowsnest Pass where she finally settled down. She was a proud member of the Royal Canadian Legion and eager volunteer in our community. A woman of high integrity and humility, she was a true inspiration to her family and friends and will be dearly missed. She is survived by her beloved sons, Howard, Dave, Tony and Mike; her sister, Fran (John) Clayton; her grandchildren, Blaine, Brandon, Carlee and Troy; her great-grandchildren, Kai and Maeve; and the rest of her charismatic and fun-loving clan including Kayla, Heather, Britaini and the newest member, Kadance as well as the many friends she made throughout her lifetime. She was predeceased by her precious daughter, Constance; her parents, Howard & Lois; and her brothers, David & Stuart.

The celebration honouring Joan-Ann’s life will be held on Saturday, April 26, 2014 at 2:00 pm at Fantin's Funeral Chapel in Blairmore with tributes provided by family and members of the Royal Canadian Legion.
