It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Jim Gilbert of Coleman, Alberta who died on October 4, 2014 at the Crowsnest Pass Health Care Centre at the age of 62 years.
Jim was born on June 18, 1952 in Newcastle, England to parents James & Elizabeth Gilbert. He was raised to be hard working, caring and dedicated to his family.
Although very proud of his native country, Jim was given the opportunity to immigrate to Canada in November of 1976 and embraced the natural and rugged wonders of this land. He was blessed with two sons whom he was immensely proud of. Jim devoted his life to their well being and found even greater joy when he became a grandfather.
Always needing to stay busy, he worked at two jobs to provide for his family. He toiled in the coalmines and gladly managed the Sasko Manor in Sparwood, BC. He still found time to be with his boys and coached soccer for over twenty years as well as playing in the Men’s League.
Jim enjoyed cooking fantastic meals for his family, fishing, cheering on his boys in their soccer and hockey tournaments, keeping up on current events here and in England, British television, military novels, walks with his dogs and quality time with his family. A generous, soft-spoken, hard-working man, he will always be admired by friends and family and dearly missed.
He leaves to mourn his passing and celebrate his life his companion, Maryanne Mauro of Coleman; his sons, Rod (Crista) Gilbert of Lethbridge and Simon Gilbert of Blairmore; Laura Pollice; Nadia Mauro Wilkins; his grandchildren, Madisyn, Treyton, Jayda and Sophia; his sister, Anne Taylor of Clipston, England; his extended family and the many friends that he made throughout his lifetime. He was predeceased by his parents, James & Elizabeth Gilbert.
The Celebration Service honouring Jim’s life was held on Saturday, October 11, 2014 at 2:00 pm at Fantin's Funeral Chapel in Blairmore, AB.
