With deepest sorrow, I announce the passing of my father, Herman Obenauer, who succumbed to illness while receiving care at the Crowsnest Pass Health Care Centre on December 8, 2016.
He was blessed with 97 years of a healthy life which he cherished deeply and lived fully. Herman moved to Canada after WWII and married his life partner, Elsa, whom he spent over forty happy years with until her passing. He was always fascinated with space and the universe along with all of its mysteries. Being a gifted woodworker, he enjoyed designing and crafting numerous projects; many of which he gifted to countless people. Herman enjoyed nature – he marvelled at the outdoors and spent pleasurable hours gardening. His passion for cooking was a boon to us all.
He spent his last years at the York Creek Lodge until his health started to fail. He was a man to be admired and dearly missed.
Left to mourn him are his son, Gerhard and ex-wife, Colleen; his grandson, Kristopher; great grandson, Jaylon; brother-in-law, Hugo; and numerous nieces and nephews. As per Herman’s final wishes, his remains were cremated with no funeral services to be held.
