In loving memory
HELEN CASWELL
(1927-2013)
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the gentle passing of Helen Ann Caswell (nee: Hvizdos) of the Crowsnest Pass, Alberta who was called to be with the Lord on January 24, 2013 at the age of 85 years.
Helen was born on February 23, 1927 in Kluknava, Czechoslovakia to Thomas and Sophie Hvizdos. At approximately ten years of age, she immigrated to Canada with her family. She experienced hardship and challenges in her life but discovered in herself a courage and determination to persevere. She grew to be a lovely and graceful young lady who captured many hearts. She was married and blessed with a family. Helen enjoyed her role as a homemaker and providing for her children. After the passing of her second husband, Kenneth Caswell, in 1963, Helen’s strength and devotion allowed her to raise her children by herself for the next nineteen years. She was a wonderful mother and caring friend as well as a talented cook whose cabbage rolls were simply the best.
In 1982, Helen had the wonderful pleasure of falling in love again. She, and a caring and affectionate man, Art Grando, shared ten very happy years together including two marvelous holidays in Hawaii.
Helen was an avid dart player and won several trophies in dart tournaments. She enjoyed playing darts and bingo at the Hillcrest Miners’ Club and dancing with her beloved Art there and at the Bellevue Legion. She also enjoyed flowers, her indoor and outdoor plants, crocheting and solving crossword puzzles. Helen had many good times with family and friends; she was a beautiful lady, always friendly, always smiling who loved to laugh and was greatly admired by her children. She will be dearly missed but will remain forever in our hearts.
She is survived by her children, Gloria (Terry) Rutherford of Ladysmith, BC, Kelvin Caswell of Hillcrest, AB and Teresa Caswell of Blairmore, AB; her granddaughter, Elneth Rutherford of Edmonton, AB; her great grandson, Sean Lynch of Edmonton, AB; numerous nieces and nephews; and extended family and friends.
She was predeceased by her husbands, Richard Ruzek, Kenneth Caswell and Art Grando; her parents, Thomas Hvizdos and Sophie Hvizdos (nee: Bator); and her sister, Mary Giza.
A Memorial Service honouring Helen’s life will be held on Saturday, May 11, 2013 in Fantin's Funeral Chapel at 2:00 pm. Condolences may be registered at www.fantinsfuneralchapel.ca. Donations in memory may be made to the Alberta Heart & Stroke Fdn, Box 2211, Lethbridge, AB T1J 4K7.
