GARY GEORGE
(1952-2013)
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gary John George formerly of Coleman, Alberta. Gary was called to be with the Lord on April 27, 2013 at he age of 60 years at the Chinook Regional Hospital after succumbing to pneumonia.
Gary was born on September 24, 1952 to proud parents John & Adelia “Jean” George. He was a loving brother to his sisters, Deanna and Beverly and continued his chivalrous and considerate nature his entire life. Gary married Lorraine Stewart, and the couple was blessed with two loving children, Terry and Ashley.
Gary devoted 25 years to Coal Mountain Operations and was promoted to Plant Operator. He was a dedicated worker but was forced into early retirement after a severe fall that resulted in brain trauma. For the year before his passing, Gary resided in Lethbridge, Alberta under the care of a kind and attentive aid from Greystoke Home Health Services.
Gary was an avid hunter and fisherman and he spent much of his time camping with his father, John, and later with his own family. He thoroughly enjoyed his trips to Vancouver fishing for salmon and his holidays to Mexico. He also had a passion for cooking, solving crossword puzzles, listening to country music or watching a good ol’ western movie.
Gary’s greatest pleasure in life was his children, Terry “T.J.” and Ashley; nothing gave him more joy than to hear of their achievements and happiness. He always looked forward to visiting them in Medicine Hat and having the opportunity to spend quality time with them and to treat his sisters to lunch. Gary encountered many trials in his life and but he gained wisdom enough to appreciate how precious life, laughter and the love of family truly is. He was a very kind and caring person and he will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by his family, friends and caregivers.
He is survived by his children, Terry (Megan) George and Ashley (Travis) George; his cherished friend, Lorraine (Steve) Stewart; step-son, Dennis (Sherry) Stewart; sisters, Deanna Vare and Beverly (Tony) Feregotto; nephews, Collin Vare and Duane (Natasha) Vare; and his extended family including members of the Sarchese, George, Stewart, Vare and Weasel Bear families.
He was predeceased by his parents, John and Jean George; grandparents, Luisa & Dominic Sarchese and John & Mary George; and his many aunts and uncles from the George, Chollak and Sarchese families.
The Funeral Service was held on Friday, May 3, 2013 at 1:00 pm at Fantin's Funeral Chapel in Blairmore, AB with Rev. Nicky Keyworth officiating. Cremation followed at Fantin's Funeral Chapel’s private crematorium. Condolences may be registered at www.fantinsfuneralchapel.ca.
