It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Florence Decoux of Blairmore, AB. She was blessed to pass away suddenly and peacefully within the comforts of her own home on September 18, 2014 after 86 years of a full life.
Florence was born on June 26, 1928 in High River, AB to proud parents John and Eleanor Taggart. Along with her brothers, she was raised to value integrity, honesty and family. She blossomed into a lovely and graceful young lady who captured the heart of Vernon Decoux. They married on December 26, 1942 in Hillcrest, AB and had three devoted and talented children.
Florence had many passions and interests including music, reading, games of chance, playing solitaire, and, in her younger days, she was a skilled horsewoman. She was also an ardent fan of show jumping. Her adventurous spirit led her to travel the world, enjoying such places as the U.S.A., England, France, Italy and Australia to name but a few. She loved to learn and studied several various fields obtaining certificates of achievement.
Florence was an independent woman who earned your respect. She never minced words and always called “a spade a spade”. Her strong willed nature led her to be nicknamed “Sarge” by some family members! She taught her children to strive for a higher standard and that right was right, and wrong was wrong. Florence was an inspiration to all who knew her and we take comfort in knowing she is in the loving embrace of her husband Vern and daughter Gini. She will be dearly missed.
Left to mourn her passing and celebrate her life are her loving children, Bruce (Wendy) Decoux of Blairmore, AB, and Susan (Jeff Hutchinson) Decoux of Nanaimo, BC; her cherished grandchildren, Mark (Lori) Decoux and Alex & Katey Filipuzzi; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family; as well as the many friends she made throughout her life, especially the Poelt and Baher families, Anne & Ernie Fantin, Joan Kionberg and Julie Boake.
She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Vernon Decoux; her daughter, Gini Decoux-Filipuzzi; and her brothers Ralph & Archie Taggart.
The Graveside Service will be held on September 26, 2014 in the Blairmore Catholic Cemetery followed by a Gathering of Friends & Family at her residence. In lieu of flowers, donations will be gratefully accepted by the Tom Baker Cancer Centre (1331 – 29 S. NW, Calgary, AB T2N 4N2) or the CNP Health Foundation (Bag 1, Blairmore, AB T0K 0E0).
