ERNEST GOULDING

1924-2013

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ernest Goulding of the Crowsnest Pass, Alberta who departed this world on March 17, 2013 while in the CNP Continuing Care Centre with his family at his side.

Ernie was born on December 30, 1924 in Goldthorpe, Yorkshire, England to parents John and Alma Goulding. At the age of two years, he and his family immigrated to Coleman, Alberta. By age eleven, his parents divorced and Ernie was raised and cherished by Joe and Maggie Fauville. Ernie answered the call to defend our great nation in 1943 and he served overseas in England, France, Holland and Germany. He volunteered for the Pacific Theatre but the war ended before embarkation. Upon returning home to settle in Bellevue, Alberta, Ernie gained employment with the Pass Dairy and discovered a beautiful and graceful young lady, Lillian Frances Sterba, oldest daughter of Frank and Mary Sterba. On June 14, 1947, they pledged their love in marriage and were blessed with two precious daughters. In the Fall of 1963, he was transferred to Lloydminster, SK to manage the Unemployment Insurance Commission.

Ernie’s sense of civic pride and dedication did not stop at the end of the war. He volunteered countless hours in the community: he was elected Bellevue’s first official mayor (1957-63); president of the Bellevue Rod & Gun Club (1949-50); originating member of the Bellevue Fire Dept. and later Deputy Chief (1951-63); member of the Bellevue and CNP Board of Trade (1958-61); the CNP Towns Committee (1958-63); president of the CNP Film Board for two years; the CNP Recreation Board (1959-62); Justice of the Peace (1959-63); Director of the Crestview Lodge serving the CNP and Pincher Creek area (1959-63); board member of the Lloydminster Scout Assoc. (1966-67) and Chamber of Commerce; member and Past Master of the Sentinel Masonic Lodge #26 (1954-2013); member of the Royal Canadian Legion for 58 years in Coleman, Bellevue, Blairmore and Past-President in Lloydminster; member of the Good Sams; and a person you could depend upon when you needed help at anytime. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his family or a simple drive up the bush country. He will be fondly remembered and never forgotten.

He is survived by his loving wife of sixty-five years, Lillian; his devoted daughters, Virginia (Brian Dalshaug) and Cynthia (Paul Kiziak); his grandsons, Ryan (Kayla) Pullyblank and Corey Pullyblank; his adoptive sisters, Marguerite Fraser, Betty Pitt, Jeanette Trotz; sisters-in-law, Audrey Crooks and Bernice Allen; his extended family; as well as the numerous friends he made throughout his lifetime.

With respect for Ernie’s wishes, cremation will occur with no funeral services. A private family ceremony will be held on Saskatoon Mountain. Donations in memory of the late Ernest Goulding will be accepted by the CNP Health Fdn, Continuing Care Dept., Bag 1, Blairmore, AB T0K 0E0, the Blairmore Legion or the Mason’s Sentinel Lodge #26 in Frank, AB c/o Jeff Schlender.
