“Millie” Townsend
(1921-2012)
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Emilie Clara Townsend of the Crowsnest Pass, Alberta who was called to be with Lord on October 13, 2012 while at the Crowsnest Pass Health Care Centre at the age of 91 years.
Millie was born on April 14, 1921 near Stony Plain, Alberta to parents Ludwig and Philippina Goebel. She and her twelve siblings were raised on the family farm with love and with an appreciation for the simple blessings of this world. As times were tough, Millie and her family worked tirelessly and depended on one another in order to provide for one and all. She developed a positive attitude to find the good in almost any situation and could easily inspire those around her.
Millie grew to be a lovely and graceful young lady who captured the heart of a dashing young man, Charles William Townsend, and in February of 1941 in Edmonton, AB, they were wed in holy matrimony. Millie and Charlie were further blessed with five children of their own and later on became grandparents and great grandparents – a role that brought them great happiness and joy.
Millie enjoyed fishing and camping with her family as well as curling, puzzles, card games and darts. She volunteered many hours to local organizations and charitable projects and made many friends in this community with her hard working ethic and playful sense of humour. She loved to receive company in her home and could conjure a banquet feast for guests at any time of the day or night. Millie was generous, gracious and kind; she will be dearly missed and fondly remembered.
She is survived by her loving family: her children, Donald, Gary (Lorna), Elaine (Martin), Chuck (Barb) and Greg (Lori); her devoted grandchildren, Mark, Doyle, Jordan, Lance, Darcy, Tyler, Lisa, Blaine, Deborah, Stacey, Kelly, Daniel, Christopher, Brendin and Jillian; her many great grandchildren; her brother, Leo (Josephine) Goebel of Edmonton; her numerous nieces and nephews; extended family and friends.
She was predeceased by her husband, Charles Townsend; her parents, Ludwig and Philippina Goebel; and eleven siblings.
The Memorial Service honouring Millie’s life was held on Friday, October 19, 2012 at 2:00 pm at Fantin's Funeral Chapel in Blairmore, AB with Rev. Janni Belgum officiating. The reception followed in the chapel with family friends sharing fond memories of Millie’s life.
