Doug Allan Lassey passed away on August 25, 2026, in Frank, Crowsnest Pass, Alberta, at the age of 67. He was born on April 5, 1959, in Edmonton, Alberta, to Don Lassey and Patricia Phelan.

Doug worked hard his whole life and did a lot of different things along the way. When he was young, he spent a brief stretch diving for sea urchins, a job he never got tired of telling his kids about. He went on to own a pizza shop and then a tile business with his best friend Louie. He later became a Red Seal journeyman welder and at one point held his B-Pressure ticket. He carried the tile work with him long after the business, building tables with mosaic patterns set by hand. If a friend or family member needed something, he showed up. That never changed, right up until his health in his last years made it hard.

He loved camping and the outdoors. Fishing, especially ice fishing, sitting around a fire, swimming, and being with the people he loved. He liked a good poker game and hockey. His music was Eric Clapton, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Shania Twain, and the Traveling Wilburys, and he loved to play guitar. He passed that passion onto his sons.

Doug could cook. Give him a nearly empty kitchen and he would still put something on the table that people talked about for years.

He was the life of the party and one of the great storytellers. He had a quick wit and a sharp sense of sarcasm. His laugh was so unique that it would stop you mid-sentence and pull you right in with him. Teasing was his love language, and being on the receiving end of it meant you were one of his people.

He loved his children and grandchildren, and he told his kids again and again to take care of each other. He gave everyone a nickname. Sasha was Blondie, Alexandra was Pumpkin, Nathan was Naners, Nolan was Nogli, Aaron was Jiggy. Those names were how he said he loved you, and they meant everything to the people who carried them.

His kids will remember the beard burn when he brushed his face against theirs, and being tickled until they were breathless.

His best friend was Louie Sarambalos. Between them they collected decades of adventures and shenanigans.

Doug was predeceased by his mother, Patricia; his father, Don; and his brother, Michael.

He is survived by his sister, Carol; his daughters, Sasha Lassey and Alexandra Halton; his sons, Nolan, Nathan, and Aaron Lassey; his grandchildren, Aislyn, Kiera, Tye, Isabella, Cash, Jaxson, Aurora-Leigh, and Julian; and his best friend, Louie Sarambalos.

With respect for Doug’s wishes, no services will be held.  Memorial donations will be gratefully accepted by the Crowsnest Pass Food Bank (PO Box 675 Blairmore, AB T0K 0E0, or cnpfoodbank@shaw.ca).  Condolences may be registered at www.fantinsfuneralchapel.ca.
