It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Donald Hill of Coleman, Alberta. Don was called to be with the Lord on January 4, 2013 at the Crowsnest Pass Health Care Centre in Blairmore, Alberta at the age of 88 years.

Don was born on February 20,1924 in Arborfield, Saskatchewan to proud parents Raymond and Louise Hill. Don was one of twelve children and he learned early in life to consider others rather than just himself. His earnest sense of honour and stout courage led him to answer the call to serve his country and protect our basic rights and freedoms. Don enlisted in the Royal Canadian Armed Forces assigned to the Winnipeg Rifles Invasion Troop #12 District Depot C.A. He was one of the first recruits to land in Normandy, France. Don was severely wounded and sent to a hospital in England. Although told that he would never have the use of his arm anymore, his determination and persistence with rigorous exercise allowed him to overcome his injury. He was awarded four medals of honour and a special medal of appreciation from Holland.

Don met a lovely young lady, Irene Elizabeth Zeith, and they were married on February 19, 1949 in Natel, BC and they had a very happy life together.

Don had a successful career as a mechanic in the mine until his retirement. He was a proud member of the Royal Canadian Legion and a person you could depend upon if in need. He was devoted to his family, country, community and friends. He will be dearly missed.

Don is survived by his wife Irene Hill, his son, Butch (Brenda) Hill; two grandchildren, Harley (Melissa) of Calgary and Sonia Leblanc of Edmonton; four great grandchildren, Hailey, Hunter, Brooklyn and Mackenzie of Edmonton; his great great grandson, Mason of Edmonton; and three sisters, Muriel, Cora and Shirley of Saskatchewan.

Don was predeceased by his parents, Raymond and Louise Hill of Saskatchewan; his loving daughter Melodye Tworowski of Edmonton; and seven siblings.

By request of the family, there will be no funeral service held. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of the late Donald Hill may be made to the Crowsnest SPCA Humane Society, Box 725, Blairmore, AB, T0K 0E0 or the charity of your choice.
