With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Dominick “Nick” Saretzky of Blairmore, AB on September 21, 2026. He was blessed with 96 fulfilled years.
Nick was born December 23, 1929, in Viscount, SK to John and Helen Saretzky. Nick married his soulmate, Tina Klassen, on June 8, 1957. Together, they built a beautiful life and a loving family. Nick was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend whose greatest joy was his family. He adored his children and grandchildren and was the best grandpa ever.
For fifty-five years, Nick dedicated himself to his business, Prestige Cleaners, becoming a familiar and respected presence in the community. His commitment to those around him extended far beyond his work. He was deeply involved in community life and gave generously of his time and talents. Nick had a lifelong love of sports and coaching. He coached baseball for many years, including the “Prestige Pirates”, as well as teams in Saskatoon. He also coached hockey and served as a Boy Scout leader, always enjoying the opportunity to teach, encourage, and mentor young people.
A devout Catholic, Nick joined the Knights of Columbus in 1953, an organization to which he remained a lifetime member. His faith, service, and sense of community were important parts of who he was. Nick was a faithful and practising parishioner of Holy Trinity RC Parish in Blairmore, AB where he regularly attended Sunday Mass and was an active member of the parish community. He received spiritual care and support from the parish and Fr. Joseph Nagothu until right before his passing when he received Communion and the Anointing of the Sick. Nick’s family will be forever grateful for this care and support.
Nick had many interests and a wonderfully curious nature. He enjoyed travelling, gardening, and playing Santa Claus. He was also a practical joker who loved a good laugh. His inquisitive mind meant he always wanted to understand how things worked. Family and friends will long remember his famous habit of putting a screwdriver into a light socket just to see whether it was getting power—a perfect example of Nick's curiosity and fearless approach to figuring things out.
Nick was a kind, patient, and caring man. He was an exceptional listener and could always be counted on to share a good story. His stories, humour, wisdom, and gentle nature brought people together and created memories that will be treasured for generations. Nick leaves behind a legacy of love, family, friendship, service, and community. His life was defined not only by what he accomplished, but by the countless people whose lives he touched.
Left to mourn his passing and celebrate his life is his wife sixty-nine years, Tina Saretzky; his sons, Larry and Kevin (Carmellia); his grandchildren, Travis, Sheldon (Mia), Danny (Kylee), Dustin (Shannon), Brent (J-Lean), Shane (Amber) and Derek; his great-grandchildren, Justice, Kayden (Paige), Ryder and Gage; his brother-in-law, George Krawchuk of Saskatoon, SK; his special nieces, Bernie (Orest) Rodych, Roxanne (Roy) Blair and their families; his extended family and many others whose lives he touched throughout his life.
He was predeceased by his parents, John and Helen Saretzky; his siblings, Verna (George) Twordik, Elizabeth (Walter) Kokotailo, Margaret (John) Loroff, Berneice Krawchuk and James (Elsie) Saretzky; his parents-in-law, John and Helen Klassen; sisters-in-law, Mary Fehr and Helen Giesbrecht; and brothers-in-law, John Klassen Jr. and Peter Klassen
