Caroline Josephine Aebli, born on March 8, 1932, in Radway, Alberta, was the beloved daughter of Helen Hanna Wenger (d. January 19, 1994) and Joseph Thadolb Wenger (d. March 8, 1992).

In 1953, Carol followed her dream of living among the Rocky Mountains and moved to the Crowsnest Pass as a nursing aide trainee. During these early years in the community she cherished, she met her first husband, George Louie Mahieux. They were married on December 26, 1953, and shared a life together until George’s passing on June 6, 1970.

In time, Carol found companionship again with her second husband, Robert Owen Aebli. They were married on May 14, 1971, and built a warm family life together until Robert’s sudden passing on February 7, 1984.

Carol devoted many years to caring for others as a nursing aide at the Blairmore Hospital, where she worked until 1972. She then chose to remain at home to raise her children and support the family business. Later, she continued her service to the community through her work at Grant Hall Pharmacy, where she remained until her retirement in 1997.

Throughout her life, Carol expressed her creativity and skill as a talented seamstress. She crafted wedding and graduation gowns for many local women and created unique, custom-made clothing for her family. She also enjoyed knitting and crocheting, finding comfort and purpose in her handiwork.

A woman of strong faith, Carol was a devoted Roman Catholic and an active member of the Catholic Women’s League. Her commitment to service extended beyond her parish, as she volunteered with the local food bank and women’s resource centre during their formative years.

Carol will be remembered for her honesty, remarkable work ethic, and steadfast belief in doing things the right way. Though she carried herself with a certain sternness, her love for her family was unwavering. She treasured time spent outdoors with them—camping, fishing, hunting, snowmobiling, and exploring on ATVs. Her garden was another source of pride, producing countless meals and desserts that brought joy to those she loved.

Carol is survived by her children Annette Mahieux-Bone, Ray (Terry) Mahieux, and Wade Aebli; her grandchildren George (Melanie) Mahieux, Kristie Mahieux, Stacy (Jason) Benson, Chad (Nicole) Mahieux, Megan Aebli, Micheal Poxton, Meaghan (Mat) Pounder, and Shawn Flannery; and nine great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters Margaret Yurkish and Cathy (Don) Pidhirney, and her brother Emmet (Marie) Wenger.

She was predeceased by her husbands George Mahieux and Robert Aebli; her son Joseph Mahieux; her grandson Joey Mahieux; her parents Joseph and Helen Wenger; and her brothers Jim and Russell Wenger.
