Anton “Tony” Gargus

(1928 – 2014)

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Tony Gargus of Edmonton, Alberta who was called to be with the Lord on June 29, 2014 while receiving care at the Royal Alexandra Hospital. He was blessed with 86 years of life.

Anton Frank Gargus was born on February 16, 1928 in Wostok, Alberta to proud parents Frank and Mykhailyna Gargus. He was raised to appreciate family and the rewards of hard work. His charming personality and caring character captured the heart of a lovely young lady, Elizabeth Sydora, and they pledged their love in holy matrimony on October 4, 1958.

Tony had many talents but he was foremost a musician. He played the drums in various bands including the Gargus Orchestra, the Gay Notes, the Northern Stars, the Rocky Mountain Boys and the Melody Rangers to name but a few. He loved gardening, cheering for the Montreal Canadians, his cars, horses, fishing and making sure his family and friends were always well fed. He had a strong faith in the Lord and lived his life by the Golden Rule. He was greatly admired and respected, always polished and professional, and an inspiration to his family. He will be dearly missed, but never forgotten.

Left to celebrate his life and mourn his passing include his beloved wife, Elizabeth Gargus; his children, Conrad (Cilla) Gargus, Rachael (Bill Diamond) Rose, Bellerine (Jim) Crosson and Geraldine (Mark) Owen; his grandchildren, Lacy (Jeff) Soparlo, Brock Crosson, Derek Rose, Colin Gargus, Ryan Owen and Jill Owen; his great grandchild, Parker Soparlo; his sisters, Helen Kolewaski, Rose (Harry) Kubersky and Victoria (Alex) Charchuk; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and the many friends he made throughout his lifetime. He was predeceased by his parents, Frank & Mykhailyna Gargus, eight brothers and two sisters.

A Celebration Service honouring Tony’s life will be announced at a later date. Condolences may be registered at www.fantinsfuneralchapel.ca.
