It is with immense sadness that we announce the passing of Mr. Allen Edward Thompson, formerly of Blairmore, Alberta, who succumbed to his illness while receiving care at the Misericordia Hospital in Edmonton on May 18, 2015 at the age of 76 years.
Allen was born on March 5, 1939 in Mistatim, Saskatchewan to parents Albert & Bernice Thompson. He was raised to be an honest and hardworking gentleman. He had many talents and abilities but his true gift lay in his hardened and skilled hands; he loved to tinker, weld and fabricate all manner of mechanical parts and gained employment as a heavy duty mechanic. He was blessed and proud to have his two sons in his life. His determined personality and blunt honesty was his trademark and his affection for his family was unquestionable. He enjoyed camping and solitary moments in the majestic backwoods of the Crowsnest Pass. A generous man with an unfaltering work ethic, he inspired his family to work hard and finish what you start, to overcome hardship and to tell it like it is. He will be dearly missed and fondly remembered.
Allen is survived by his two sons, Terry (Janece) Thompson of Hinton, AB and Eric (Irene) Thompson of Sparwood, BC; his five grandchildren, Michaela, Adam (Hailey), Randy, Erin (Matt) and Lesleigh; his brother, Melvin Thompson of Mistatim, SK; his sister, Marjorie (Wilfred) Lutz of Tisdale, SK; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
He was predeceased by his beloved companion, Jean Anderson (nee: Burrows) and his parents, Albert & Bernice Thompson.
The Funeral Service honouring the life of the late Allen Edward Thompson was held on Saturday, May 23, 2015 at 3:00 pm in Fantin's Funeral Chapel in Blairmore. Donations in memory may be directed towards the Canadian Cancer Society or to the Alberta Heart & Stroke Foundation. Condolences can be registered at www.fantinsfuneralchapel.ca.
