In loving memory of

Albin Frank Panek

(1917-2014)

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Albin Panek of Coleman, Alberta. He was called to be with the Lord on September 24, 2014

at the Crowsnest Pass Health Care Centre at the age of 96 years.

Albin was born on October 2, 1917 in Bankhead, Alberta (Banff area) to Joseph and Maria Panek. He was raised with traditional values and to appreciate what you have rather than long for what you have not. He married a kind and loving woman, Nina Kowenko, and they were blessed with three loving children. He worked hard in the underground coalmines to support his family and his toils eventually took its toll on him.

Albin enjoyed hunting, fishing and all things outdoors. He was a long-standing member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks and community-minded individual you could depend upon when in need. He was a talented cook who tended his own vegetable garden and created the most fabulous wild mushroom soups. Nor will we forget his amazing waffle cookies, cabbage rolls and other specialty dishes.

Albin was a direct, honest and generous man who gained much wisdom in his lifetime and was ready to give handy advice to his family and friends. He was a loving and nurturing husband, father and grandfather who inspired his family and earned their admiration. He taught us to treat everyone with fairness and respect and to always cherish what you have never wasting the gifts you have been given. Although his physical presence is gone, he will remain forever in our hearts.

He is survived by his loving children, Geraldine (Joe) Chenier of Lethbridge, Rozanne (Jim) Lawn of Calgary and Leslie (Barbara-Anne) Panek of Calgary; his cherished grandchildren, Nicole, Ryan, Megan, Michael, Natalie and Leslie Jr.; his sister-in-law, Fran (Ron) Wong and their families; as well as the many friends he made throughout his lifetime.

He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Nina Panek; his parents, Joseph & Maria Panek; and his siblings, Joe Panek, John Panek, Mary Miller, William Panek and Adele McKay.

A private family graveside service and Memorial Mass will be held with Fr. Ben Marino as Celebrant. Donations may be directed towards the Alzheimer’s Society, 402, 740-4 Ave S, Lethbridge, AB T1J 0N9 in memory of Albin’s wife, Nina Panek.
