Alan Martini passed away on September 8, 2015 in his home in the town of Blairmore, Alberta. He is survived by his sister Sandra of Calgary, his nephews Robin (Camila) of Paris, France; Pat (Shelley) of Calgary and niece Jody (Derek) of Olds, Alberta. He was a great uncle to Nina, Spencer, Kaden, Zane, Mylan, Jane and Hannah.

Alan was born on August 3, 1947 in the Crowsnest Pass and other than time spent at the University of Calgary studying for his B Comm. and a few months working in the North, he lived, worked, played and hunted here in the place that he loved so much.

He was an active and devoted member of several organizations in the Pass. You might have found him cooking Friday night suppers at the Legion. What about those Lions Saturday morning breakfasts during Rum Runner Days and Thunder in the Valley? He was there - in the background with his apron on and a wide smile!

Ducks Unlimited suppers and events – he was there. Maybe he even saved a seat for you! He has several awards in recognition of his volunteer service – ‘for the recognition of his years of volunteer service in the advancement of Ducks Unlimited’s mission, to help provide people and wildlife with healthy wetlands habitats’.

Next Christmas those of you to whom he delivered Meals on Wheels, please eat an extra cookie or have a drink in his name. He will be there in spirit!

He enjoyed traveling and was ready to do more. Those years in White Fish, Montana in his cabin by the lake will be remembered with fondness by many.

After 40 years as a Chartered Accountant in Blairmore, he has earned his rest.

The family asks you to enjoy each others’ company and to raise a toast to a well known and well respected man.

We make a living by what we get but we but we make a life by what we give.

In keeping with Alan’s request there will be no memorial, but the family would like to ask each and everyone who knew and cared for Alan to “pay it forward” with kindness to each other and enjoy the beauty of the Crowsnest Pass that he loved so dearly.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Alan will be gratefully accepted by the Crowsnest Pass Health Foundation "Greatest Needs" (P. O. Box 510, Bag 1, Blairmore, AB T0K 0E0).
