It is a difficult and sorrowful time in the passing of a figure who has embodied the very best of one's collective past. Kindness, a great all-encompassing laugh, the very essence of what was meant by "a twinkle in his eye", and the ability in his presence to make one feel as though you shared with him a special secret about the very best that life could offer - all of this was my Uncle Wilbert. He and Auntie Anne were always the peerless destination answer to the endless "Are we there yet?" of vacations - the scent of rich, crisp mountain air laden with coal dust, the Frank Slide slab sidewalk in the yard, the smell of Auntie's simmering spaghetti sauce on the stove, and the hugs and laughter that let you know that the world was a good and safe place once again, at least for awhile ... and the promise of fishing and deep fried rainbow trout (of course), and watching uncle - tall and strong, washing at the kitchen sink as he looked out over the tracks at the mountain beyond, making jokes as he teased Auntie and the rest of us with his smile and that ever raspy silken voice, while her laughter coaxed him to the table with a feigned impatience that radiated love ... could life ever be any better?

"We shall not see his like again" was written with my Uncle in mind, I am sure; but it does not say enough ... nor "broke the mold", nor any of all of the other words that mark the passing of a great and wonderful man. He introduced me to the beauty and the freedom that could be found in nature, and to the kindness that can only come from great strength and the courage to use it wisely; and the world is now so much poorer for his passing ...

Rest in Peace. Uncle Wilbert ... and on behalf of my mother - Irene Orkusz, my wife - Kerry Doidge, and myself - Terry Korman, thank you for your presence in our lives. You are much beloved, and never to be forgotten.

My Uncle Wilbert was one in a million and will never be forgotten. Thanks for the love and understanding, shelter when needed and continuous emotional support. I will always smile while thinking of great memories - golfing, picnics, rides in the country and so much more. My kids loved you from the first minute ... My husband also. May the fish bite in Heaven! Love you, From Ray, Darlene, Sondra and Alex Bayley.
