My deepest condolences Mary and families...I was in total shock when I read Jim's obituary. I meet him a summer or two ago when Pete had that memorial for Jeanine and what a wonderful man Jim was and oh so talented with that camera of his. He took some pretty awesome pictures that's for sure. My thoughts and prayers are with you all as you travel down that hard path that lies ahead of you. Keep those treasured memories you shared with Jim close to your hearts. Debbie Slavik :(

Mary,

Deepest condolences to you and all of Jim's family.

Jim was an incredible guy and will be dearly missed. He had a really calm and engaging nature, and I always enjoyed visiting with him. I remember discussing his latest cameras and the shots he was after with them. His photography showed how much he appreciated the beauty of the world around him.
I know Jim was a friend to many, and he was willing to lend a hand and share his knowledge with those who needed help.
I think one of my favorite traits of Jim's was his great sense of humor - not much escaped his observations and he wasn't shy with his wit.
So very sad to hear of his passing, but glad to have know him.

Dear Mary,
Sending you and your family, my heartfelt condolences at this most difficult time. Words cannot ease the pain that you all are feeling right now. I hope you can find some comfort in the following poem. Jim lived his Dash well.

The Dash
by Linda Ellis copyright 1996

I read of a man who stood to speak
at the funeral of a friend.
He referred to the dates on the tombstone
from the beginning…to the end.

He noted that first came the date of birth
and spoke the following date with tears,
but he said what mattered most of all
was the dash between those years.

For that dash represents all the time
that they spent alive on earth.
And now only those who loved them
know what that little line is worth.

For it matters not, how much we own,
the cars…the house…the cash.
What matters is how we live and love
and how we spend our dash.

So, think about this long and hard.
Are there things you’d like to change?
For you never know how much time is left
that can still be rearranged.

If we could just slow down enough
to consider what’s true and real
and always try to understand
the way other people feel.

And be less quick to anger
and show appreciation more
and love the people in our lives
like we’ve never loved before.

If we treat each other with respect
and more often wear a smile,
remembering that this special dash
might only last a little while.

So, when your eulogy is being read,
with your life’s actions to rehash…
would you be proud of the things they say
about how you spent YOUR dash?
