Henry Robert Borthwick

   It is with profound sadness as we announce the passing from this world of Hank Borthwick of Elkford, British Columbia on April 9, 2016 at the age of 69 years.

   Born Henry Robert Borthwick on August 9,1946 in Calgary, Alberta to proud parents, Danald and Isabel Borthwick, he was raised to respect his culture and nature.  He developed into a handsome and dashing young man who won the heart of graceful and lovely young lady, Mary Elaine Bishop, and they were blessed with family of their own to nurture and love.  Hank provided for his family utilizing his many talents.  After finding work as a welder and chef, he realized his talent with machinery and earned his heavy-duty mechanics license.  He gained employment in the coalmines servicing their fleet for over 33 years and later downshifted to driving the mine bus for almost 40 years.  He volunteered his spare time with the Elkford Ambulance as an EMT as well as the Fire Department and Mine Rescue crew.  Hank always put the needs of others before his own and welcomed everyone into his home.

   Hank had many passions in his life including music and playing the guitar, instructing archery, managing an arcade, and staying in tune with his native culture.  He built his own teepee and practiced the ancient aboriginal skills handed down from generations.  He may have appeared gruff and calloused on the outside, but he was truly a compassionate, non-judgmental man who was devoted to his family and loved them unconditionally.  He will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.

  Left to celebrate his life include his loving wife, Mary “Ronnie” Borthwick of Elkford; his children, Shona Lee Ann Borthwick, Shane Robert (Toree Lane) Borthwick; his grandchildren, Alex Robert Borkowski, Heather Margaret Ann Greer, Kelly James Jarvis, Ashley Marie Jarvis, Colton Davis, Sammy (Mike Leduc) Davis, Skye Batchelor and Adriana Darling; his mother, Isabel Borthwick; his sister, Joyce (Ralph) Renfer; his aunt and uncle, Robert (Jacqueline) Clark; sisters-in-law, Kathy (Wes) Borthwick-Chalifoux, Nancy (Marsha) Bradcoe, Linda (Tom) Tracey; numerous nieces and nephews, especially Matthew Borthwick, and his extended family and many friends.

   He was predeceased by his father, Danald Borthwick; and his brothers, Gary and Donny.

  The Memorial Service will be held in the Teck Hall at the Elkford Community Conference Centre, 750 Fording Drive on Saturday, April 23, 2016 at 11:00 am. Memorial donations will be gratefully accepted by the Canadian Cancer Society. Condolences may be registered at www.fantinsfuneralchapel.ca.
