Percy was a father, husband, son, uncle, grandfather and brother who lived his life with love and passion. He was kind, humorous, determined and generous. He never ceased to amaze those around him with his resiliency and love for life. He was one of the strongest men we knew.
He is remembered as passionate about hunting, writing, painting and, was an avid outdoorsman and world class hunter. He lived and breathed hunting and the outdoors. His love for the outdoors was second only to the love for his family. He also had many more hobbies. He loved board games, like Scrabble, and card games, like Cribbage, which he nearly always won. He was an avid painter and was beginning to learn to play the bass guitar. He loved to binge watch dramatic TV series with Sylvia and, also loved watching any scary Halloween movie ever made.
His passion for the outdoors was apparent at an early age and he began hunting and fishing when he was a young child growing up in Edson, Alberta. He went hunting and fishing with his brothers, Rick and Allen, and his father, Doug. Having his own trapline and shooting once he was old enough to have a gun. Once the family moved to BC he fell in love with the mountains of the East and West Kootenay and immersed himself in hunting and fishing in the mountains and streams of the region.
Percy became a well recognized name in the hunting community and was very respected. He had several BC record elk and moose, fish and deer. Percy entered the stratosphere of the hunting community when he took one of the largest sheep in the category ever, after doggedly following a herd of Big Horn Sheep for several seasons.
During all his years hunting he not only filled his freezer with meat for his family, but he also had endless material for his story writing and had world class hunting trophies as well.
Percy spent 10 years living in the remote town of Faro, in the Yukon Territory. The work was secondary and a means to an end. His move was primarily about the hunting and fishing in the Yukon. He was also very involved in the mine rescue teams and travelled for competitions. While in the Yukon, Percy became a father to Hailie and Richard.
Percy moved to Blairmore, Alberta and continued his work in the mining field at Teck Coal, Coal Mountain Operations. He met and married Sylvia in August of 1998 and together they had two children, Ephemia and Emmanuel.
Percy was a published author, known as W.P. Williamson. He had a way with words and his stories were colourful, imaginative and popular. He was very proud of his writing career, so much so that when he bought a fishing boat, he named it “Writers Cramp”. His stories were published in many hunting magazines, and he was working on having all his stories compiled and published in one book. Known as the “Track Man”, he was also working on sponsorship and funding for a 9-episode TV series named “Tracks and Wheels”.
Percy was in a motorcycle accident in 2018 that left him paralyzed and without the use of his legs. He was determined to live as much life as he could despite life in his wheelchair and did everything he could to continue getting outdoors using a specialized tracked wheelchair.
There are no words to describe the hole his passing has left in the hearts of his friends and loved ones.
Percy is survived by his devoted wife, Sylvia; his loving children Hailie, Richard (Celeste), and Ephemia; his mother Reta; his father, Doug (Val); his brother, Al (Cindy); his sister, Sue (Lawrence); and his brother-in-law, Lawrence from Australia.
