Waltraud “Traudel” Elisabeth Littlewood (née Hemmer) passed away peacefully on January 31, 2026 at the Crowsnest Pass Health Centre, Blairmore, Alberta, at the age of 78.
Born on July 30, 1947, in Zweibrücken, Rheinland-Pfalz, Germany, Traudel lived a full and active life shaped by family, work and quiet passions. As the spouse of a Canadian Armed Forces member, she moved frequently between Canada and West Germany, embracing each new chapter with resilience and adaptability. Throughout her professional life, she worked in a variety of roles including postmaster, translator and service contractor, and later, in retail.
Traudel valued an active Lifestyle and enjoyed dancing, running, aerobics, cross country and downhill skiing, hiking, Tai-Chi in the park and speed walking. She was a wonderful cook and baker, and took pleasure in sewing and knitting beautiful clothing for herself and others. A private person by nature, Traudel kept her circle close and loved her family and pets dearly.
Traudel is lovingly remembered by her husband of 58 years, Gary Littlewood; her daughters Denise Grant (Gino Collard) and Sarah Hofley; grandchildren Zachary Grant (Britni) and Breanna (Zack); and great-grandchildren Collyns and Shae Grant and Lillah and Adalee.
Traudel was predeceased by her parents, Johanetta and Heinrich Hemmer, and her brothers Erich, Manfred and Heinrich.
A Celebration of Life will be held in her honour in July 2026. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Traudel’s memory to the Crowsnest Pass SPCA (PO Box 725 Blairmore, AB T0K 0E0), or an animal shelter of your choice. Condolences may be registered at www.fantinsfuneralchapel.ca .
