Stanley Wilfred Winarski, 86, passed away comfortably in his sleep at the Crowsnest Pass Health Centre on January 13, 2026.
Stan was born on August 3, 1939, in Frank, Alberta to Annie and Stanley Winarski. As a boy who lost his father at 11 years old, he grew up in a supportive community with the freedom to roam the hills, ski race at what is now Pass Powderkeg, and deliver newspapers and meat while he was in school.
Stan entered the RCMP on January 26, 1959, and after an interesting and engaging career, he retired as a Staff Sergeant in Kamloops on July 7, 1993, to return to his much-loved Crowsnest Pass. While away, Stan married Marjory Berniece Dyer, a Psychiatric Nurse from New Norway, Alberta on October 20, 1962 in New Westminster, British Columbia. Together, they went on to raise their son, Allan, throughout Stan’s various postings in British Columbia. Stan was an avid skier and enjoyed hiking and fishing throughout the Crowsnest Pass. Stan and Marjory were also active members of the Good Sam RV Club out of Pincher Creek.
Stan was predeceased by his parents, and his sister, Patricia Heisie. Left to mourn his passing and celebrate his life is his wife, Marjory; his son, Allan (Christina); and his granddaughters Allison Winarski and Brooke Zieba. His family will miss him deeply.
Stan’s family is grateful to Dr. Botha, the staff of the Blairmore Health Unit and the Crowsnest Pass Health Centre for caring for him during his health journey.
A private graveside service will be held. Condolences may be registered at www.fantinsfuneralchapel.ca.
