It is with sorrow that we announce the passing of Shirley Cecilia Stang on November 23, 2025, at the Crowsnest Pass Continuing Care Centre in Blairmore, AB. She was 80 years of age.
Shirley was born on March 7, 1945, in Macklin, SK, to parents, Pauline and Simon Klotz. On July 1, 1963, she married the love of her life, Denis Stang, and together they began a beautiful journey that eventually led them to make the Crowsnest Pass their family’s home in 1980.
Shirley was a woman of quiet strength, boundless kindness, and an unwavering devotion to the people she loved. She took great joy in her many creative talents—sewing, knitting and crocheting that brought warmth to countless lives. As a proud and dedicated member of the Catholic Women’s League, she lived her faith through service and compassion.
Her generous spirit shone brightly through her knitting hundreds of teddy bears over the years, all of them lovingly donated to the Alberta Children’s Hospital and the Crowsnest Pass Health Centre. Each bear carried a piece of her heart and brought comfort to children and families in need.
Above all else, Shirley treasured her family. She always put them first, and she was happiest when surrounded by them. Her pride in her family was deep, and her love will remain a guiding light for all who knew her. Shirley’s memory will forever be held in the hearts of those who loved her.
Left to mourn her passing and celebrate her life is her husband, Denis Stang of Hillcrest Mines, AB; her children, Brian and Denise Stang of Lundbreck, AB, Charlotte and Todd Draper of Coaldale, AB and Darlene Evans of Innisfail, AB; her grandchildren, Krystal and Jeromy Maciejewski and Family of Coaldale, AB, Daniel Morrison of Lundbreck, AB, Shandra and Sheldon Pomreinke and family of Coaldale, AB, Garrett and Raeley Draper of Blairmore, AB, Brock Draper and Piper Matus of Calgary, AB, Jaylene Evans and Jake Ewashen of Innisfail, AB and Julia Evans and Alton Teierle of Calgary, AB; her greatgrandchildren, Skyler and Nixon Maciejewski, Quinn Pomreinke and Zeke Ewashen; her brothers, Tony (Liz) Klotz of St. Claude, MB, Clifford (Polly) Klotz of Guelph, ON, Maurice (Eunine) Klotz of Olds, AB, Marty (Marilyn) Klotz of Calgary, AB and Fred Klotz of Drayton Valley, AB; her sisters, Paulette (Rod) Flavelle of Clairmont, AB and Jackie (Doug) Buhs of Watson, SK; and several adoring nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Pauline and Simon Klotz and her sister, Sally Schell.
