Sharon Newton Obituary

Sharon Newton was born on March 26, 1941, in Lethbridge, Alberta, and as a pious Catholic, she was called to the Lord on December 17, 2025 at the age of 84. Sharon was predeceased by her parents, Edna May and Jack McCallum; an infant daughter, Mary; her brother, Bernard McCallum; and her first husband, John Wigle.

Sharon had a wonderful childhood in Alberta and though she would later move several times, her ties were always in southern Alberta. She enjoyed every Danielle Steele book she could get her hands on, baking and creating wedding cakes, as well as providing a good life for her husband and children, while all the time working in municipal administration with her impeccable penmanship.

Her devotion to the Catholic Church was unmistakable, and upon coming to the Pass, became  the organist for the Holy Trinity Parish, performing for Masses and sacred events of the church and would quite often even Mill in for weddings and funerals in churches of all denominations Sharon would later take a secretary position with the Parish. She was always pleased to be a part of this community and share her talents with her heart and soul. At one point this led her to create a small balloon company to bring joy to the Crowsnest Pass.

One of her favourite past times was a table full of family enjoying a serious game of Chinese rummy. Christmas was her favourite time of the year, when her house was adorned with countless angels. Her baking and cheer were endless. Sharon was devoted to her family, and nothing brought her more pleasure than being with her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Sharon married John Newton in 1995 and celebrated 30 years of marriage together. Sharon was blessed with faithful friends Shirley and Wally Neufeld who regularly met for companionship and shared unwavering support for each other.

Left to mourn her is her faithful husband, John Newton; children Norah (Dave) Wood, David Wigle, and Michael (Shannon) Wigle; and stepsons Tim (Angie) Newton, and Kevin Newton. She was blessed with twelve grandchildren: Joshua Lavoie, Scott (Krizma) Wood, Jamie (Brayden) Van Mill, Jordan Bond, Courtney (Braden) Cann, Charlotte (Daniel) Van Driesten, Colton (Londyn) Newton, Brittney (Mike) Newton, Khloe Newton, Tristen Newton, Jessica (Darcy) Brauer, and Jason Doyle. Sharon was most proud of her great-grandchildren: Remington Wood, Wednesday Wood, Silas Van Mill, Elise Van Mill, Mikaela Cann, Liam Cann, Riley Van Driesten, Mackenzie Van Driesten, William Van Driesten, Chase Plowman, Bennett Tremblay, Logann Brauer, and Kesler Brauer.
