Fly fisherman, home chef, and beloved family man, Ron Louis Secretan passed away quietly with family by his side in the beautiful Crowsnest Pass, Alberta.
Left to mourn his loss are his loving spouse Jo-Anne Secretan, and his children: Lisa (Ryan), Kori (Andrew), Morgan (Dallas), Taylor (Casandra), and his loyal lab, Ruby Tuesday. His most cherished grandchildren—Seth, Willow, Amelia, Wren, Ayla, and Barrett—will forever remember their Papa’s signature knuckle bumps.
Ron is also lovingly remembered by his siblings: Glenn(Penny), Linda (Gerry), Pat(Robert), and Ken(Susan). He was predeceased by his parents, Louis and Dorothy Secretan, his sister Betty, his beloved Aunt Velma, and his cherished camping comrades.
Born in Magrath on January 28, 1959, Ron had fond memories of growing up in Del Bonita before the family moved to Cardston, where he developed a love for baseball, basketball and life outdoors.
A passionate and skilled fly fisherman, Ron found peace and joy exploring the rivers and landscapes of the Crowsnest Pass. He treasured time spent fishing with friends, family, and especially his dear friend, Red.
Ron was equally known for his love of cooking. Whether swapping recipes at the local grocery store or perfecting his famous chili, he shared his culinary joy with everyone around him. His kids still argue that his chili remains the best. He was happiest around a campfire, cooking chicken thighs and salted pork for his good friend Carol and passing on his love of camping and cooking to his children and grandchildren.
He also had a soft spot for garage sales—always on the hunt for treasures and “whatchamacallits.”
One of Ron’s proudest accomplishments was his journey to sobriety. He recognized the strength it took to walk that path and encouraged others to seek help and healing without shame.
Ron lived a life full of laughter, love, resilience, and flavour. He leaves behind a legacy of stories, shared meals, and quiet encouragement—and would want everyone to keep passing those recipes on, always with a smile.
Ron’s family has chosen to hold a private interment at a later date. In lieu of flowers and casseroles, donations can be made in Ron’s name to the Crownest Pass Family Resource and Crisis Centre (PO Box 1207 Blairmore, AB T0K 0E0). Condolences may be registered at www.fantinsfuneralchapel.ca.
