It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our husband, dad, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, Marcel Lemire on June 9, 2025 with his family by his side at the Crowsnest Pass Health Care Centre.
Marcel was born October 30, 1945 in Fort Macleod, AB where he also attended school. He went on to attend the Lethbridge Junior College Sheet Metal program, and later moved to Calgary, AB to continue his work in the trades. He eventually returned to Fort Macleod where he was employed by CPR. It was then that he met the love of his life, Doreen Filewich, and they were married for fifty-seven years. Marcel and Doreen bought and operated “Midnight News” on Main Street Fort Macleod, but the lure of the mountains caught up with them and they relocated to Coleman, AB. Here, Marcel was employed by the Municipality of Crowsnest Pass and Nabors Drilling.
Marcel loved the outdoors and spent many hours hunting, fishing and camping with his family. He was always up for an adventure with his brother-in-law, Paul Filewich that often resulted in interesting stories with the occasional unfortunate event. Marcel was always ready to tell you a story of his life experiences while enjoying a beer around the campfire. He was the type of person who if something could go wrong, it did, but he always laughed about it. The exception to this was when he encountered twin grizzly bears. He didn’t find it funny at all, but everyone else did. Over the years, Marcel was a member of the Coleman Lions Club, Coleman Curling Club, and enjoyed coaching minor hockey. He also enjoyed watching hockey and was an avid Habs fan. Marcel will be greatly missed by his family, especially his grandchildren whom he adored, and by everyone who knew him.
Left to mourn his passing and celebrate his life is his wife, Doreen; his children, Mark (Christi) Lemire and daughter, Trina (Cory) Benson both of Lethbridge, AB; his three precious grandchildren, David, Tenaya and Kienna; his sisters, Raymonde (Roy) Davis and Denise Chester; his brother, Rick (Blanche) Lemire; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by his parents, Henry and Dora Lemire; his sisters, Adele Heck and Elaine Erick; his grandson, Dustin Lemire; his niece, Tia Filewich; his mother-in-law, Katherine Hud (formerly: Filewich); his sister-in-law, Frances Filewich; and his bothers-in-law, Don Chester, Marcus Heck, Dennis Erick and Paul Filewich.
Special thanks to Dr. Maritz, Home Care, as well as the staff of the Crowsnest Pass Health Care Centre who cared for Marcel during his last days.
A private family gathering will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations will be gratefully accepted by STARS Air Ambulance (www.stars.ca). Condolences may be registered at www.fantinsfuneralchapel.ca.
