John Vigna

   With deep sadness we announce the passing of John Vigna on April 2, 2026, at the Crowsnest Pass Continuing Care Centre, Blairmore, AB.  He was 97 years of age.

   John came to Canada with very little, but through hard work and dedication, he built a good life rooted in family and service.  A barber for over fifty-five years, he was far more than someone who cut hair—his shop was a gathering place.  For many, a first haircut from John was a rite of passage, and countless others stopped by just to visit and share a story.  He never met a stranger and treated every person who sat in his chair like an old friend.

   John had a deep love for people and community, always ready with a smile and a conversation.  He cheered proudly for Canadian teams, especially the Montreal Canadiens, Toronto Blue Jays, and Calgary Stampeders, and found joy in life’s simple pleasures.  At home, John took great pride in his yard, which was well-known for its meticulous care and vibrant geraniums.  He treasured time spent doing yard work, as well as visiting and working at his son’s acreage.

   A devout Catholic and member of the Knights of Columbus, John lived his faith through action.  He believed in helping others out of the goodness of one’s heart, not for recognition. His generosity was quiet and anonymous, but his contributions were many.  Known for his kind, humble spirit, John leaves behind a legacy of compassion, integrity, and service.  He will be deeply missed by all who knew him and fondly remembered by everyone whose lives he touched. 

   Left to mourn his passing and celebrate his life is his son, David Vigna and countless dear friends.  He was predeceased by his wife, Doris.

   A Private Graveside Service will be held in the summer.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations will be gratefully accepted by the Crowsnest Pass Health Foundation (PO Box 455 Blairmore, AB T0K 0E0).  Condolences may be registered at www.fantinsfuneralchapel.ca.
