Helen Seaman Obituary

With great sadness we announce the passing of Helen Seaman on April 3, 2026, at the Crownest Pass Continuing Care Centre, Blairmore, AB.  She was 100 years of age.

Helen was an incredibly strong woman, with a deep sense of empathy, kindness, and care for others. She loved her family fiercely and was so proud of her three children and their families. Her nine grandchildren meant the world to her, and she took such joy in her great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren as well. They were her greatest treasures.

Helen was a hard worker all her life. She began as a waitress at the Turtle Mountain Inn, and later worked at Philips Cable, where she eventually retired. She believed in dedication and perseverance, and she lived those values every day.

In retirement, Helen and Reuben enjoyed traveling and spending time with her sister Thelma and her husband. Thelma was not only a sister, but a best friend. They spoke every night, sharing stories, laughter, and memories. Their bond was truly special and meant so much to Aunt Helen.

As the eldest of five children, Helen took on responsibility at a very young age, especially after the loss of her father and brother. At just 16, she went to work in Halifax—a time she often spoke about, with many stories that reflected the rich and full life she lived. She had a remarkable memory and a gift for storytelling that kept those moments alive for all of us.

One of the greatest examples of her strength and love was the care she gave to her husband, Reuben. She devoted herself to him, providing constant care and ensuring he could remain at home in his final years. That kind of dedication speaks volumes about the depth of her love and character.

Family was everything to Helen. She cherished every visit from her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Even the simplest moments—just sitting together and talking—became lasting memories. She was a very thrifty person, rarely spending on herself, always thinking ahead and putting her family first. Her greatest concern was always for the well-being of her children, saving what she could in case they ever needed her help.

Helen’s kindness extended far beyond her family. She cared deeply for everyone. If someone came to her door, she would welcome them in, feed them, and make sure they were taken care of—even if it meant giving up her own meal. She truly had a heart of gold.

She also held a special love for Nova Scotia, especially her small fishing village of Southwest Port Mouton. She shared many memories of that place, and I am so grateful for the stories she told me. She loved to stay up late, talking and connecting with others. Conversation and companionship were what kept her spirit so vibrant.

Helen leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and selflessness. She touched so many lives, and her memory will live on in all of us. We love you. You will always be in our hearts.

Left to mourn her passing and celebrate her life are her children, Patsy (Edward) Linderman, Reuben (Lois) Seaman Jr., and Brian (Darlene) Seaman; her grandchildren, Cindy (Jerry) Newman, Roxanne (Brian) Michalski, Lana Krish (Née: Linderman), Brad (Kim) Linderman, Kevin (Jody) Seaman, Kory (Kelsey) Seaman, Kristy (Trevor) Nelson, Shelly Seaman and Blaine (Houi) Seaman; her great-grandchildren, Cody (Chelsi), Chalee (David), Alyssa (Kris), Christopher, Tiffany, Tyson (Allie), Khale, Morgan, Grant, Gage, Kenzie, Korban, Kayla (Dawson), Riana, Marisa, Noah, Lennon, and Rylie; her great-greatgrandchildren, Walker, Annalee, Cooper, Lucien, Skylar, Lucy, Ayra, Mara, Anarega and Imogen; her sister, Thelma Yeliga; many nieces, nephews and extended family; and Shelly and Blaine’s mother, Claire.

She was predeceased by her husband, Reuben; her parents, Stanley and Lulu McLeod; her great-grandson, Eric Michalski; and her siblings, Lois Curtis, Albert McLeod, Phyllis Roy and Roma McLeod.
