Harrison Smith Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Harrison Smith on March 27, 2021 at the Crowsnest Pass Health Care Centre, Blairmore, AB from cancer.  He was 71 years of age.

Harrison was born in Bakersfield, CA on December 29, 1949.  When he was three years old, his parents moved their family to Canada where Calgary, AB would become home for most of his life.

Harrison attended Western Canada High School in Calgary, University of Washington (Zeta Psi) in Seattle graduating in Mathematics and furthering his mathematics studies at Simon Fraser University, B.C. He was a true scholar who was always seeking knowledge with a keen memory for facts and figures.  Whether from formal education, reading non-fiction, or from experiencing life, Harrison was constantly learning.  He also enjoyed studying maps, geography, astronomy and travel. He was well-known for his witty sense of humor, for his kind caring nature, and for being a true friend.

Harrison was an integral part of his family, both immediate and extended, and spent a good portion of his life being the caregiver for his aunt and then his parents. He was a fixture on family trips and at all their gatherings and celebrations.  The many “Uncle Harrison-isms” that he leaves behind will forever remind them of happy times spent together. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.

Left to mourn his passing and celebrate his life are his sisters, Judith “Judy” (Eric) Burns of Hesperia, CA and Thayer (Tom) Head of Blairmore, AB; his nephew, James Pasieka of Hesperia, CA; his nieces, Sarah (Bill Fisher) Head of Lethbridge, AB and Stephanie (Andre) Mersereau of Ottawa, ON; his great-nephews and nieces, Walter, Hazel, Jack and Thayer; his extended family and many very good friends in Calgary, AB.

With respect for Harrison’s wishes, no funeral service will be held.  In lieu, of flowers, memorial donations will be gratefully accepted by the local charity of your choice.  Condolences may be registered at www.fantinsfuneralchapel.ca.
