Dave Simpson

   Dave Simpson, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully at home in Coleman on May 31, 2025, with his family by his side. He was 76 years old.

   Born in Claresholm, Alberta, Dave dedicated his life to education, inspiring others with his passion for learning and his commitment to helping people grow. As a teacher, he touched the lives of countless students with his patience, enthusiasm, and creativity. He was known not just for his knowledge, but for the way he brought joy and laughter into the classroom.

   A man of wide-ranging interests and talents, Dave had a lifelong passion for sports. He played football in his younger years and later coached softball and badminton, always valuing teamwork, perseverance, and the connections built through sport. He especially enjoyed boxing and followed the sport closely throughout his life.

   Dave was also an eclectic music lover and a talented guitar player, with a deep appreciation for a wide range of genres. His quick wit and encyclopedic knowledge made him the ringer on any trivia team—if there was an obscure answer, Dave usually had it. He loved keeping up with current events and politics, always eager for thoughtful conversation and debate.

   Rarely was Dave without a dog in his life. In his early childhood, Rex was his companion, followed by O.J., then Tippy, and, until recently, Chase. The longevity of these four-legged friends speaks to the care and love he bestowed on them.  He spoke of his buddies so often that his students would often give him dog related gifts at Christmas or year end.

   Dave and his family spent many memorable summers camping together, and in retirement, he and his wife travelled extensively, exploring the world with open minds and full hearts. His humour, insight, and warmth left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.

   Dave is lovingly remembered by his wife, Diane; his three children, Marie (Corey) and his son, Oliver, David (Louise) and their children Ray and Vance, and Alex (Amanda). As ‘Gramps’ he cherished his grandchildren. His legacy of wit, music, curiosity, and love for learning lives on in all who knew him.

   A private family service will be held, with a celebration of Dave’s life to follow at a later date.  Condolences may be registered at www.fantinsfuneralchapel.ca.
