DARRYL SNOWDON
(1941-2020)
The world has lost a good man. Darryl Eric Snowdon passed away June 11, 2020, weeks short of his 79th birthday, a year after being diagnosed with angiosarcoma.
Born the eldest son of Ken and Polly Snowdon, Darryl grew up in the Crowsnest Pass where he enjoyed fishing the Crowsnest and Elk River’s, target practicing at the indoor gun range, and most of all, stock car racing as a member of the Pass Auto Racing Association.
Darryl married the love of his life, Judith Sumanik, July 17, 1971, and the couple moved to the Lundbreck area in 1981 to begin their dream of acreage living, breeding, training and showing dogs. Darryl retired from work in Property Management in 2003 after 21 years with the Alberta government to create and maintain his pride and joy, “Shadowbar Shepherds”.
This was a man of quiet strength and determination. He was kind and caring , dependable, hard-working and ready to step in and help whenever help was needed. His conservative attitude towards change often made him the voice of reason in troubled times yet he faced the hardships and reality of life with an acceptance that commanded a deep respect from us all.
If you were his friend, you were blessed.
And as his wife, I know he was the “wind beneath my wings.”
A Gathering of Family & Friends will be held at our acreage in honour of Darryl’s life. The date and details will be announced at a later date.
