Darrell was the oldest of five children: three brothers and one sister. He grew up on a family farm outside of Denzil, SK. Having strong morals and family values, family was always his priority. His children and grandchildren meant the world to him, and he was incredibly proud of them.
Darrell worked hard to build a sense of community and improve people's lives by upgrading, developing, and maintaining recreational infrastructure in the communities of Leader, SK, Biggar, SK, Edson, AB, Rimbey, AB, Houston, BC, Humboldt, SK, Lac la Biche, AB, and Elk Point, AB. He achieved provincial recognition for his contributions to Communities in Bloom and Saskatchewan Parks and Recreation Association. He also still holds the high jump record in 1A Unity, Saskatchewan. He did this all while running a farm and raising four children who are in the occupations of Electrical Engineering, Power Engineering/Wastewater Technician, Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, and Wildlife Specialist in Environmental Sciences.
Darrell enjoyed hobby farming, hunting, fishing, and camping with his family. He also loved gardening, quadding, curling, and starting projects. As a young adult, he enjoyed skydiving, spelunking, badminton, volleyball, track and field, downhill skiing, and cross-country running.
He believed that we should leave this world a better place than we found it. Darrell was very generous and never turned away someone in need. He would have given the shirt off his back, even if that was all he had left. He was incredibly hard-working and would have freely given his time and energy to whoever needed it, even if it was the worst job you could think of. He had a joke for any situation and always had a way of making everyone smile, especially within earshot of his laugh. Darrell’s was a life well-lived and he will be remembered with love and respect.
Left to mourn his passing and celebrate his life are his mother, Magdalena Lessmeister; his children, Lark (Michaella) Lessmeister, Darwin (Sarah) Lessmeister, Magdalena (Dalton) Kennedy and Denzyl Lessmeister; his grandchildren, Nina Lessmeister, Wilfred Lessmeister and John Lessmeister; his siblings, Richard (Beth) Lessmeister, Carman Lessmeister (Liza Brown), Clayton Lessmeister and Dana (Colin) Swanson; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and many dear friends.
He was predeceased by his father, Wilfred Lessmeister; his grandson, Herman Lessmeister; and his sister-in-law, Linaya Lessmesiter.
