Carol Landa, Formerly Macpherson Obituary

Carol was born in Devils Lake, ND November 29, 1936 and passed away peacefully October 18, 2024 in Lethbridge, Alberta surrounded by her family.  She was 87 years of age.

Carol moved to St. Paul, MN in her formative years, graduated High School and spent two years in college studying to become a Flight Attendant.  During her college years she met Phillip Macpherson and married him on August 25, 1956 in St. Paul, MN.  They spent twenty-five years together and had six children. In 1971 they moved to Libby, MT and1981 Phillip passed away. Carol remarried a couple years later and moved to Coleman, AB in 1983 with her two youngest children Dawn and Daniel.

Throughout her life, Carol enjoyed a diverse range of activities and hobbies: hiking, swimming in lakes, rivers and pools, and berry and mushroom picking. Gardening, canning, freezing, baking and cooking were not only things she excelled at, but she also took pride in teaching these skills to her family. Books she enjoyed included documentary, history, romance and fantasy. Family game nights were a favorite throughout her life and if you offered her a game of cribbage, she never declined. In the earlier years, she sewed clothes for her children as well as numerous items for around the house, adding embroidery, cross stitch pieces and knitted items over the years. Although computers were not her favorite, she enjoyed word searches, sudoku, crosswords, mahjong and a variety of other games. A favorite pastime was listening to live music with songs from yesteryear, especially mellow country and instrumental. She also enjoyed bus tours to different historical sites throughout southern Alberta with friends she had met along the way. When pursuing her hobbies and interests Carol was outgoing, friendly and happy just to be there.

Carol was a member of the Order of Eastern Star for sixty-eight years, she started in St. Paul, MN at the age of 18 following in her mother’s footsteps. When she left Minnesota, she became a member of Libby Chapter No. 69 in Montana and moved to Castleview Chapter No. 21 in Cowley, AB on Sept. 18, 1990.  She was a dedicated member, held different offices and was very active her entire life, with a special interest in selling daffodils in the spring for Cancer Awareness. She is a Past Matron of both Libby and Castleview Chapters. In June 2016 she became a Life Member of Castleview Chapter.

As a mother, Carol loved spending time with her children and grandchildren, passing down her knowledge of all things she loved at every opportunity. Moving to another country was trying on some of her relationships, but she tried her best to show all her children acceptance and unconditional love regardless of the miles that separated them. While being separated from family, she thought of them often, mourned the moments she missed, and gratefully celebrated the moments she shared. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Carol has left behind a huge legacy of descendants: her children, Charles (Debra), Coline (Steve), Thomas (Steve) Dawn and Daniel (Lorelei); her grandchildren, Shawn (Rosalina), Stacy (Mark), Stevie, Christopher (Brandy), Jared (Kate), Stephanie, Logan (Jess), Fawn (Bill), Kasper, April Rose (Jon), Anthony (Allise), Brandon, Holly (Tori), Alexandra and Madison; her great-grandchildren, Alyssa, Brandy, Danika (Christopher), Lilly, Logan, Kyra, Raine, Trevor, Tyler, Sierra (Drew), Brayden, Zoey, Ben, Bethany, Blake, Micah (Erica), Dontau, Jonathan, Justin, Fynn, Gracee and Isaac; her great-great-grandchildren, Ripley, Quincy and Haven; her daughter-in-law, Ruth; as well as many friends.
