It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Ernest “Bruce” Setter of Tie Lake, BC on July 17, 2023, at the age of 82 years. He was predeceased by his wife of 44 years, Gwyn Setter and his parents, Ernie and Mattie Setter of Atikokan, Ont. He is survived by his children, Leslie (Paul) Jerry, David (Susan) Setter, and Robin (Terry) Bruder; his grandchildren, Maeghan, Tyler, Spenser, Mitchell, Blake and Brett; and step-grandchildren, Thomas, Daniel, Aaron and Carmen.
Bruce was born on September 2, 1940, in Russell, Manitoba and grew up in Atikokan, Ontario. He loved the outdoors and hunted, hiked and fished most of his life. Following high school, Bruce moved to Winnipeg. Bruce worked for Toledo Scale for 36 years. Bruce and Gwyn married in 1966 and had 3 children. In 1975 the family moved to Calgary. Planning for their retirement, Bruce and Gwyn bought their home on Tie Lake in 1989 and retired there in 1997.
Bruce was a kind soul with a heart as big as his smile. He made everyone feel welcome. Bruce believed that each day was a gift and that you should always give more than you take. He kept in touch with extended family and friends and could be counted on to “like” every picture a friend or relative posted. Bruce loved looking out at the lake in all seasons and all weather. He made the most of and enjoyed every day. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
The service celebrating Bruce’s life will be held on Monday, July 31, 2023 at 1:00 pm at the Jaffray Community Hall, in Jaffray, BC.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Sand Creek Lions Club (General Delivery, Jaffray, BC V0B 1T0) where Bruce was a member for many years. Bruce appreciated the practical support the club provided to local families in need and the club’s support of the community. Condolences, photos and tributes may be posted at www.fantinsfuneralchapel.ca and https://.www.kudoboard.com/boards/aSDyp28Z.
