Anne (Tarcon) Fantin was born in Coleman, AB on January 29, 1931 to Elizabeth and Mike Tarcon and passed away ever so peacefully at the age of 95 with her daughter, at her side on March 10, 2026 at Wynn Park Villa in Truro, Nova Scotia - the nursing home she had resided at for the last 7 months. Prior to that, she had been living with her daughter, Debbie Fantin at her home in Grand Lake, Nova Scotia for 2 years. After marrying her husband Ernest Fantin on October 23, 1954 (deceased March 7, 2015) Anne resided in Blairmore, Alberta.
She attended Cameron School in West Coleman and ushered at Purnell Theatre in Coleman before moving to Calgary, AB to train as a Nursing Aide. Afterwards, she worked at the CNP Hospital for 31 years - only leaving due to a leg injury that ended the career she loved so much. Afterwards, she worked as a prison matron at the Blairmore, RCMP detachment and helped her husband, Ernie at Fantin’s Chapels.
Anne was passionate about her community and friends - everyone was always welcome at their home and cottage at Lee Lake. She was an active member of the CNP Museum, Coleman Legion #9 and the Coleman and Bellevue Senior Centres. She also enjoyed bowling, playing cards and watching curling on TV. Anne loved going to the casino - something she still did every 2 weeks while living with Debbie in Nova Scotia.
Anne and Ernie enjoyed travelling in their motorhome with Vacationland Tours and made 4 trips across Canada to Nova Scotia to spend time and travel around Atlantic Canada with their granddaughter, Lindsay.
She loved her 3 granddaughters - Lindsay MacDonnell (Debbie’s daughter) and Caitlin and Hanna Fantin (Darren’s daughters). She beyond adored her 7-year-old great grandson - Hayden MacDonnell (Lindsay’s son) and loved all the cards he made and the pictures he drew for her every time they visited.
Anne is predeceased by her son Bruce (1958) and is survived by and will be missed terribly by her daughter, Debbie Fantin of Grand Lake, NS; her son, Darren Fantin of Lethbridge, AB; her granddaughter, Lindsay and husband Nick and great grandson, Hayden MacDonnell of Ellershouse, N.S., her granddaughter Caitlin Fantin of La Crete, Alberta and granddaughter Hanna Fantin of Lethbridge, Alberta; her two sisters-in-law, Jean Anne Fantin of Edmonton, Alberta and Evelyn Pye of Kitchener, Ontario as well as four nieces, Laurel Wells of Edmonton, Alberta, Donna-Marie Pye of Waterloo, Ontario, Sandy Feil of Kelowna, BC and Glenda Pye of Toronto, Ontario and one nephew, Rick Fantin, Edmonton, Alberta.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, June 23, 2026 at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church (13126 – 21 Ave., Blairmore, AB). Mass will be at 11AM with a luncheon to follow afterwards in the adjacent hall.
Anne and Ernie were always such animal lovers! Throughout her time living in Nova Scotia, she helped her daughter, Debbie, who has been involved in dog, cat, horse and wildlife rescue organizations. She was passionate about providing love and affection to approximately 16 rescue dogs who they fostered in Grand Lake until securing permanent, loving homes for them. She could just not part with 2 little ones she fell totally in love with - Kicsi and Tucker - whom we ended up adopting. These little dogs brought her so much comfort and joy and were with her almost up until the time she passed away.
Her wish for “Donations in her Memory” is to financially assist these incredible Rescue Organizations in helping more animals in need of medical attention and forever homes.
A container for cash donations will be available at the Celebration of Life in Blairmore on June 23, 2026 and all donations will be gratefully accepted for these worthy causes (all funds donated will be divided and allocated to the 5 rescue groups). After funds are collected and allocated, a notice of the amount donated, and the names of Rescue Groups will be published in the Pass Herald along with a huge Thank You from Anne. Donations can also be e-transferred to dfantin@ns.sympatico.ca
We are so grateful for all the support and assistance provided by the Nova Scotia Alzheimer’s Society. Donations in Anne’s name can be made at: Alzheimer.ca/ns/en/donate
